Walking on Water

After Jesus fed the 5,000 men and their families…
Immediately after this, Jesus insisted that his disciples get back into the boat and head across the lake to Bethsaida, while he sent the people home. After telling everyone good-bye, he went up into the hills by himself to pray. Late that night, the disciples were in their boat in the middle of the lake, and Jesus was alone on land. He saw that they were in serious trouble, rowing hard and struggling against the wind and waves. About three o'clock in the morning Jesus came toward them, walking on the water. He intended to go past them, but when they saw him walking on the water, they cried out in terror, thinking he was a ghost. They were all terrified when they saw him. But Jesus spoke to them at once. "Don't be afraid," he said. "Take courage! I am here!" Then he climbed into the boat, and the wind stopped. They were totally amazed, for they still didn't understand the significance of the miracle of the loaves. Their hearts were too hard to take it in. Mark 6:45-52.

Oregon Coast - Can You Walk on the Water?
Don’t be afraid. There are 244 and the place. If we’re in an unsafe situation, then no matter what, we may be afraid. But even then we can have confidence that God is with us and for us—always. One of His promises that gives us assurance of that is found in the book of John.
I am leaving you with a gift—peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don't be troubled or afraid. John 14:27
What more could we want than peace of mind and heart? That should give us no fear--no anxiety.

Look at that scripture passage again. He intended to go past them…. What was that all about? He saw that they were in the midst of a storm…in trouble and rowing hard. They were confused about all that had been happening…and didn’t understand Jesus’ power—yet knowing that He could heal others didn’t they consider that He could save them? Here they were terrified. Afraid. Afraid of drowning? Afraid of what they thought was a ghost walking on the stormy water? Fear is a funny thing. It makes a person weak, often not thinking clearly and vulnerable to doubts. Was Jesus testing the disciples? He was going to walk on past them…and when they called out—He climbed into the boat and the storm stopped. He didn’t even have to speak on this occasion. The storm just stopped. What an awesome powerful God we have! Can you trust Jesus to help you? Do you believe in Him…in His power…in His mercy?

Prayer ~ Lord Jesus, forgive me for my doubts…and fears. I trust You to take away my anxieties…to calm the storms that occasionally come into my life. Thank You for the miracles You performed…and continue to do daily.
