Before Jesus
fed the 5,000 men and their families….
The
apostles returned to Jesus from their ministry tour and told him all they had
done and taught. Then Jesus said, "Let's go off by ourselves to a quiet
place and rest awhile." He said this because there were so many people
coming and going that Jesus and his apostles didn't even have time to eat. So
they left by boat for a quiet place, where they could be alone. Mark 6:30-32
Get into the boat. We'll sail across the Sea of Galilee...and find a quiet place to rest. |
Jesus knew
the importance of rest. He was the creator…He was with God the Father as they
created everything…and then they rested.
On the seventh day God had
finished his work of creation, so he rested from all his work. And God blessed
the seventh day and declared it holy, because it was the day when he rested
from all his work of creation. Genesis 2:2-3
Now His
disciples were weary from their time of visiting surrounding communities…healing the sick, raising the dead, curing
those with leprosy, and casting out demons (Matthew 10:8). They needed rest—so
did Jesus. Since there were so many people around Jesus suggested that they all
go off by themselves to a quiet place. There they would be able to rest and
eat. Just what they all needed. Just get into the boat and we’ll go to a tranquil
haven—where we can relax and get refreshed.
That is what
we often seek…a quiet vacation to get renewed and refreshed. During your
vacation time do you try to spend some time alone with God to allow Him to
refresh your soul? Why wait for a vacation? Set aside some quality time with
the Creator Himself today. He will give you rest.
Prayer
~ Jesus, You promised…"Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry
heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach
you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your
souls. For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light."
Matthew 11:28-30. Please give Your rest to all those who are burdened with
daily stress and anxiety. Sometimes our problems just seem more than we can
handle alone…so we are grateful that You are with us…always.
