Millstone Around the Neck

Millstone used to grind grain in Israel.

But if you cause one of these little ones who trusts in me to fall into sin, it would be better for you to be thrown into the sea with a large millstone hung around your neck. Mark 9:42

Sin is a powerful threat to our lives. It finds it roots right there with Eve and Adam in the Garden…and anywhere that wilily serpent Satan lurks. He wants us to draw away from Christ—but if Christ is for us…who can be against us?
What shall we say about such wonderful things as these? If God is for us, who can ever be against us? Romans 8:31
Paul wrote another passage in Romans that addresses the dilemma we all face with sin in life.
I have discovered this principle of life—that when I want to do what is right, I inevitably do what is wrong. I love God's law with all my heart. But there is another power within me that is at war with my mind. This power makes me a slave to the sin that is still within me. Oh, what a miserable person I am! Who will free me from this life that is dominated by sin and death? Thank God! The answer is in Jesus Christ our Lord. So you see how it is: In my mind I really want to obey God's law, but because of my sinful nature I am a slave to sin. Romans 7:21-25

Prayer ~ Dear Lord God—I don’t want to be a slave to sin. You have set us free—Jesus!  I really do want to obey You…and to seek You first in all my ways. I know that You are for us…and greater is He (You) that is in me than he that is in the world (Satan). Give me…as well as my family, friends and neighbors the desire and grace to please You and to never lead any other person of any age into sin. No millstones for us.

Friday’s Feast at the King’s Table
Have you heard of the New Four Food Groups? They are Vegetables, Fruits, Legumes, and Whole Grains. These were introduced by the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine in 1991. Where has this information been hiding since 1991? I think that we have meat and dairy activates that have been keeping this information from the front line media…or I’ve had my head in the sand for the last 26 years. Most likely the latter! Have you heard of this? So here’s the number of servings we should have per day to provide our bodies with antioxidants to ward off infections and cancer, as well as adequate protein and nutrients to provide for healthy growth.
Fruits - 3 or more servings of ½ to 1 cup
Vegetables – 4 or more servings of 1 cup raw or ½ cup cooked
Legumes (beans, peas and lentils) – 3 or more ½ cup cooked beans, ¼ cup bean spread, 3 oz tofu
Whole Grains – 6 or more ½ cooked, ¾-1 cup dry cereal, 1 slice of bread, ½ tortilla (bagel = 4 servings)
The idea behind these new food groups is that meat and fat affect the hormones in our bodies and cause cancer and inflammatory diseases. Can you live without meat? The fiber in all the fruits and vegetables, as well as the legumes, is also highly beneficial for removing toxins from our bodies. That is the basic info on these four new food groups in a nutshell…but limit the amount of nuts you include in your diet. Some of them are high in oil. The diet is lacking in Vitamin B12 so it is suggested that anyone following this eating regime include a good multivitamin that contains Vitamin B12.
