Guest Table Manners

When Jesus noticed that all who had come to the dinner were trying to sit in the seats of honor near the head of the table, He gave them this advice: "When you are invited to a wedding feast, don't sit in the seat of honor. What if someone who is more distinguished than you has also been invited? The host will come and say, 'Give this person your seat.' Then you will be embarrassed, and you will have to take whatever seat is left at the foot of the table! Instead, take the lowest place at the foot of the table. Then when your host sees you, he will come and say, 'Friend, we have a better place for you!' Then you will be honored in front of all the other guests. For those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted." Luke 14:7-11

Jesus gave such good advice in this parable. Don’t honor yourself! It goes along with other teachings…

"Do not seek revenge or bear a grudge against a fellow Israelite, but love your neighbor as yourself. I am the LORD. Leviticus 19:18

The man answered, "'You must love the LORD your God with all your heart, all your soul, all your strength, and all your mind.' And, 'Love your neighbor as yourself.'" Luke 10:27

Love others…put their desires ahead of your own.

It also goes with the acrostic that many Sunday School teachers use for JOY
Jesus first, Others second, Yourself last. Do you live that way?

Prayer ~ Dear Jesus, I am aware of Your presence in my life…and Your healing touch—Thank You. Please remind me daily of the JOY that You bring into my life and that I need to live moment by moment putting You first…Others next and myself last.
