Yes or No? Do You Need a Reminder?

You may be asking why I changed my plan. Do you think I make my plans carelessly? Do you think I am like people of the world who say "Yes" when they really mean "No"? As surely as God is faithful, our word to you does not waver between "Yes" and "No." For Jesus Christ, the Son of God, does not waver between "Yes" and "No." He is the one whom Silas, Timothy, and I preached to you, and as God's ultimate "Yes," He always does what He says. For all of God's promises have been fulfilled in Christ with a resounding "Yes!" And through Christ, our "Amen" (which means "Yes") ascends to God for His glory. 2 Corinthians 1:17-20

Saying what you mean is an honest response—it shows integrity. No lying or hiding the truth. Jesus taught this same thing in His Sermon on the Mount.
You have also heard that our ancestors were told, 'You must not break your vows; you must carry out the vows you make to the LORD.' But I say, do not make any vows! Do not say, 'By heaven!' because heaven is God's throne. And do not say, 'By the earth!' because the earth is His footstool. And do not say, 'By Jerusalem!' for Jerusalem is the city of the great King. Do not even say, 'By my head!' for you can't turn one hair white or black. Just say a simple, 'Yes, I will,' or 'No, I won't.' Anything beyond this is from the evil one. Matthew 5:33-37.

That was taught in the Old Testament.
Then Moses summoned the leaders of the tribes of Israel and told them, "This is what the LORD has commanded: A man who makes a vow to the LORD or makes a pledge under oath must never break it. He must do exactly what he said he would do. Numbers 30:1-2.

I love it when Jesus uses Old Testament scripture to teach His truths. It was there all along—the people just needed a reminder. Do we need a reminder, too? Dig into His word and find His truths and promises for yourself. Yes? Or No? Amen.

Prayer ~ Lord Jesus—thank you for the reminder that we need to let our “Yes” be Yes...and our “No” be No. Once again we are grateful for Your obedience—coming to earth and being the ultimate sacrifice for our sins. Your “YES” fulfilled all our Heavenly Father’s promises and gives hope to all of humanity—for a forever future with You. Amen.
