Acquire wisdom! Acquire understanding! Do not forget
nor turn away from the words of my mouth. Do not forsake her, and she will
guard you; Love her, and she will watch over you. The beginning of wisdom is:
Acquire wisdom; and with all your acquiring, get understanding. Prize her, and
she will exalt you; she will honor you if you embrace her. Proverbs 4:5-8
Wisdom is
such a good thing. Solomon was pretty smart to ask God to give him wisdom. I,
too, want all I can get. Wisdom is important for both men and women—no
difference. A wise man (or woman) will
hear and increase in learning, and a man of understanding will acquire wise
counsel, to understand a proverb and a figure, the words of the wise and their
riddles. The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge; fools despise
wisdom and instruction. Proverbs 1:5-7. Don’t be foolish. Be sure to
instill in your children a love for wisdom and understanding.
Draw out a
map of life—maybe making a new board game of it—showing how an imaginary person
makes choices every day and how good choices result in good things
happening…and how bad choices in friends and activities may land that same
person in jail. That person could be them someday, depending on the choices
they make. Wise decisions result in good friends, good activities, fun times
and all-round better living conditions. Loving wisdom is a good thing.
Lord, once again I ask that You shower me, my
children and my grandchildren with wisdom and understanding. Help us to make
good decisions every day.
