Lent
– Day 29 – Another day to contemplate what Jesus did for you as He took
your sin and carried it to the cross.
A wise child brings joy to a father; a
foolish child brings grief to a mother. Proverbs 10:1
Joy—the heartfelt happiness of delight that
we all long to embrace in our lives with our family and friends. As a parent we
all have hopes and dreams of the joyful times we spend with family members—and
yet not everyone has perfect children. Solomon wrote of the joys that parents
have…and don’t have.
Sensible children bring joy to their father;
foolish children despise their mother. Proverbs 15:20.
It is painful to be the parent of a fool;
there is no joy for the father of a rebel. Proverbs 17:21.
The father of godly children has cause for
joy. What a pleasure to have children who are wise. Proverbs 23:24.
My children bring me such joy as they are
growing in God’s grace and wisdom. They are great parents themselves and are
raising their children in the admonition of the Lord—to seek Him first in their
lives. Those grandchildren are precious in my sight…and more importantly in the
Lord’s eyes.
Prayer
~ Lord, may the children of my friends and neighbors bring them as much joy as
the joy You have blessed me with in my children and grandchildren. I delight in
You and your plans for families.
