Who understands the power of Your anger and Your
fury, according to the fear that is due You? So teach us to number our days, that
we may present to You a heart of wisdom. Psalm 90:11-12
Be efficient.
Seek better ways—God’s ways and His wisdom. The Message Bible tells us in
Proverbs 12:2 that…a good person basks in
the delight of God, and he wants nothing to do with devious schemers. I’d
say that if a person is trying to be efficient then they aren’t going to waste
their time with devious schemers. Jesus didn’t waste His time with schemers…He
was up front with even a rich ruler who wanted to know how to inherit eternal
life—and professed to have kept all the commandments. When Jesus heard this, He said to him, "One thing you still lack;
sell all that you possess and distribute it to the poor, and you shall have
treasure in heaven; and come, follow Me." Luke 18:22. That rich ruler
didn’t sell his stuff and come back to follow Jesus. Would you? Do you have a
heart of wisdom—are you teachable? The psalmist asked God to teach us to number
our days—make them count for the Lord—don’t waste your time.
Training Tip – Count days out on the calendar with your family for
some big event that will happen soon. School starts. Grandpa and Grandma are
coming for a visit. Christmas. Birthdays. There are always special days ahead
of us. Will you have more wisdom when you reach that day? Ask God for wisdom—and
with that wisdom ask for understanding. Choose a couple of wise verses from
Proverbs 12 to discuss with your family. For example:
To learn, you must love
discipline; it is stupid to hate correction. - Proverbs 12:1 NLT
The godly care for their animals,
but the wicked are always cruel. - Proverbs 12:10 NLT
The Lord detests lying lips, but
he delights in those who tell the truth. - Proverbs 12:22 NLT
Lord help us to see and understand the wisdom that
You give us. Show us how to be efficient with our time and energy in serving
You.
