Read Proverbs 6
And Jesus increased in wisdom and in stature, and in favor with God and with people. Luke 2:52
And Jesus increased in wisdom and in stature, and in favor with God and with people. Luke 2:52
Jesus was just a boy of twelve years old--and assumedly had been through his Bar Mitzvah. That is the Jewish custom or rite of passage that trains Jewish boys to become men--responsible for keeping the Torah. They must learn and read passages of the Torah at their synagogue. They also are to question what they are learning--trained to be deep thinkers. What a goal! Those who excelled went on to become Rabbis. No wonder many called Jesus, Rabbi. How many twelve or thirteen year old Christian young men do you know who know scripture like Jesus did at twelve--and question what they are learning and how to apply it to their lives? For that matter, how many adults do you know who are real Bible scholars--are you? I wish I were! All the Bible programs that allow us to search on key words almost make scripture memorization obsolete--almost. Nothing will ever replace scripture memorization. Hide His word in your heart. MEMORIZE! You never know when you'll be without your Bible and want to share a verse--or if our Bibles will one day be confiscated. No one can take away what you have stored in your heart and mind.
Training Tip - Choose a verse for your children to memorize that encourages wisdom. Here are a few suggestions--there are many more from which to choose if you search a Bible concordance on-line.
Proverbs 4:5
James 1:52
Matthew 7:24
Ephesians 5:15
To help them memorize the verse, write them out in large letters--even if they can't read yet. Then read them and have the children repeat them with you at least six times during the day. Making up a song or jingle to the words will help them--and you--remember the words. Make it fun for them. They may even choose to do some hand/arm actions to go with the words. Be creative and encouraging with them.

Lord Jesus, thank you for being such a good example to me, my children and grandchildren. Give us wisdom and understanding of your word and help us to remember--to memorize it-- and apply it to our lives.
Happy Anniversary-Mike & Melissa!
