April 1 – Fishy Gratitude

But I, with shouts of grateful praise, will sacrifice to you. What I have vowed I will make good. I will say, 'Salvation comes from the LORD.'  Jonah 2:9 NIV

There in the belly of the great fish Jonah expressed his gratitude to God. God rescued him from drowning. There Jonah was running away from God, from the responsibility God had given him to go to Ninevah—and God got his attention with a great storm. He was feeling pretty guilty. Have you ever felt that way? Guilty over not doing something that you clearly thought God wanted or expected you to do. God gets our attention in different ways. Sometimes through other people holding us accountable—sometimes with a storm—but not often getting swallowed by a big fish. Try to see ways that God is working in your life today. Be obedient to His call and grateful for the ways He uses you to serve Him.

Training Tip – Be an example for your children today. Thank them for the ways they help you and share with them the ways that God helps you and your family. Pray and praise God together for His faithfulness—and salvation.

Lord God, I praise You for giving me a grateful heart—that I can serve You even in little ways. Thank you once again for sacrificing Your Son Jesus on the cross—and raising Him from the grave—that all of here who choose to follow You have salvation that starts now—not just when we get to heaven.
