September 7 - What Are You Looking For?

Deuteronomy 4:27-31 NASB - (27) "The LORD will scatter you among the peoples, and you will be left few in number among the nations where the LORD drives you. (28) "There you will serve gods, the work of man's hands, wood and stone, which neither see nor hear nor eat nor smell. (29) "But from there you will seek the LORD your God, and you will find Him if you search for Him with all your heart and all your soul. (30) "When you are in distress and all these things have come upon you, in the latter days you will return to the LORD your God and listen to His voice. (31) "For the LORD your God is a compassionate God; He will not fail you nor destroy you nor forget the covenant with your fathers which He swore to them.

Look—Search for God with all your heart and soul. Do you see Him all around you? In the mountains, the desert, the sea shore? In the stars at night? In the flowers that bloom—with a sweet fragrance? In the trees and animals that He created? Do you hear Him in the wind as it blows—or the quiet stillness when there is fresh snow covering the ground? Do you find Him in children’s smiles or tears—or in the wrinkled hands of your dear relative in the nursing home? Is He in your heart? Have you asked Him to live there with you? Have you read His Word in Psalm 111?

Praise the LORD! I will give thanks to the LORD with all my heart, in the company of the upright and in the assembly.
Great are the works of the LORD; they are studied by all who delight in them.
Splendid and majestic is His work, And His righteousness endures forever.
He has made His wonders to be remembered; The LORD is gracious and compassionate.
He has given food to those who fear Him; He will remember His covenant forever.
He has made known to His people the power of His works, in giving them the heritage of the nations.
The works of His hands are truth and justice; All His precepts are sure.
They are upheld forever and ever; they are performed in truth and uprightness.
He has sent redemption to His people; He has ordained His covenant forever; Holy and awesome is His name.
The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom; a good understanding have all those who do His commandments; His praise endures forever.

He is worthy of our praise. The time we spend looking for Him is time well spent. Have you looked for Him today?

Lord – I’m searching—looking—for you with all my heart and soul. Please give me wisdom and understanding as I seek and serve You.
