September 2 – Record – Write it Down

Ezra 7:10, For Ezra had set his heart to study the law of the LORD and to practice it, and to teach His statutes and ordinances in Israel. (NASB)

Ezra was a good example for us in studying God’s Word. In order to teach God’s laws to others, he had to study and practice it, which probably included writing or recording some of his own thoughts. Practice what you want to teach! That is what Ezra did.

Read scripture every day—a verse, passage or chapter until God tells you something, gives you something to think about. Keep a journal or notebook and record what you’ve read and what God has told you or impressed upon you about that scripture passage. Record your prayers there too and you’ll be able to see how God has answered them. Just a simple thing like writing down a few words—Record. I am amazed to see how God is using scripture to reach and teach me about even simple things like compassion and quiet strength--see Colossians 3:12.

Dear Jesus—How we love to study Your Word—to feed upon it! Inspire us today. Help us to understand the passage that we’ve read and to apply it to our lives that we would be better equipped to tell others about You.
