“I tell you the truth, all sin and blasphemy can be forgiven, but anyone who blasphemes the Holy Spirit will never be forgiven. This is a sin with eternal consequences.” He told them this because they were saying, “He’s possessed by an evil spirit.” Mark 3:28-30
Meditate on these words of Jesus.
Truth. Jesus was a truth teller. He never lied. Over and over He said … I tell you the truth? Additionally, He is Truth.
Jesus told him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me. John 14:6 (Underlined for emphasis.)
What is blasphemy? It is insulting God, or showing a lack of reverence and can be considered as sacrilege, profanity, irreverence, or cursing. Are people today blaspheming God with their swearing or cursing? That is just what the Jewish leaders accused Jesus of early in…and throughout His ministry.
But some of the teachers of religious law said to themselves, “That’s blasphemy! Does he think he’s God?” Matthew 9:3
Jesus tells us in the focus scripture for today that blasphemy, except for blasphemy of the Holy Spirit, can be forgiven. Forgiven is a gift… just ask for it.
What do we learn about Jesus from this scripture passage?
Prayer ~ Jesus, please forgive me for times I’ve even thought curses—and not spoken them out loud. Thank you for forgiving me. To God—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit—be the glory and honor…forever!
Verse of Salvation ~ Help us, O God of our salvation! Help us for the glory of your name. Save us and forgive our sins for the honor of your name. Psalm 79:9
