The door…or gate will be opened.
This is the gate at the Church of the Beatitudes by the Sea of Galilee near Tabgha and Capernaum in Israel.
Keep on asking, and you will receive what you ask for. Keep on seeking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks, receives. Everyone who seeks, finds. And to everyone who knocks, the door will be opened. You parents--if your children ask for a loaf of bread, do you give them a stone instead? Or if they ask for a fish, do you give them a snake? Of course not! So if you sinful people know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give good gifts to those who ask him. Do to others whatever you would like them to do to you. This is the essence of all that is taught in the law and the prophets. Matthew 7:7-12
Meditate. Focus on God’s goodness and grace.
Just what is grace? Generally, it is defined as “unmerited favor.” We don’t deserve it, but God blesses us with it anyway. God is good that way. Faithful to keep His promises and give direction to those who seek His will in their life.
Ask. Receive. In an Old Testament application of these words, we find that God spoke to Solomon in a dream and offered to give him whatever he asks for. Solomon asked for wisdom, not riches. God richly blessed him with wisdom and riches. See 1 Kings 3:3-15. Have you had any significant or unusual dreams lately?
That night the LORD appeared to Solomon in a dream, and God said, “What do you want? Ask, and I will give it to you!” 1 Kings 3:5
There were other incidences of God fulfilling the desires of one’s heart. That is just what He longs to do, even as promised in the New Testament. The one thing He expects…and for which He asks is obedience.
And we will receive from him whatever we ask because we obey him and do the things that please him. 1 John 3:22
Seek and find. David gave that wise advice to his son, Solomon.
Reading Revelation we see that Jesus Himself is standing at the door…of our heart…knocking and waiting for us to invite Him in. He is hoping to share a meal as a friend. Can you open the door of your heart and allow Jesus in?And Solomon, my son, learn to know the God of your ancestors intimately. Worship and serve him with your whole heart and a willing mind. For the LORD sees every heart and knows every plan and thought. If you seek him, you will find him. But if you forsake him, he will reject you forever. 1 Chronicles 28:9
Look! I stand at the door and knock. If you hear my voice and open the door, I will come in, and we will share a meal together as friends. Revelation 3:20Is Jesus your “friend” or do you want Him be? What do you think of these promises?
What do we learn about Jesus today from this scripture? Ask. Seek. Knock.
Prayer ~ Lord Jesus, I hear You knocking at the door of my heart, and I am seeking You with my whole being, mind, and soul—asking for forgiveness as I struggle with my attitude. Help me to be kind to others—as You were—and obedient, not just because You want that, but because it is part of my nature.
Verse of Salvation ~ Restore to me the joy of your salvation, and make me willing to obey you. Psalm 51:12
