Last Day of May

Recapping May: Are you spiritually thirsty? Jesus has promised to provide the water of life. That has got to be some of the best news ever. It is finished was Jesus’ proclamation from the cross and He repeats it again near the end of the book of Revelation. What is “finished?” I’ve been told…and read in commentaries…that what was finished is the work that God the Father had given Jesus Christ to do.

Cross depicting the life of Christ.
From Medjugorje
And he also said, "It is finished! I am the Alpha and the Omega—the Beginning and the End. To all who are thirsty I will give freely from the springs of the water of life. Revelation 21:6

It is worth noting that although Jesus’ responsibility was “finished,” God is not “finished” with us yet. This may be the last day of May…but it is not the last day with others here on earth. God still has a plan and we are part of it. He wants us to reach out to others—for Him with the Good News of Jesus’ birth, death, resurrection, and pending return. He is not finished with mankind. His love is greater than the sin, suffering, and selfish attitude of the very people He created. Forgiveness is forthcoming to all who repent and turn to Him. The last day is not the last day. It may be the last day for some who reject Jesus Christ as the Savior and Messiah of Jews and of the world. The choice to repent and choose Jesus is up to each person. What will you choose on this last day of May?

But if you refuse to serve the LORD, then choose today whom you will serve. Would you prefer the gods your ancestors served beyond the Euphrates? Or will it be the gods of the Amorites in whose land you now live? But as for me and my family, we will serve the LORD." Joshua 24:15

Meditate. Consider your choice today.

Prayer – Lord Jesus, I choose You. I want to serve You all the days of my life…beginning with today. This may be the last day of May, but it is not my last day with You. Life with You is forever.

Verse of Salvation ~ We proclaim to you the one who existed from the beginning, whom we have heard and seen. We saw him with our own eyes and touched him with our own hands. He is the Word of life. This one who is life itself was revealed to us, and we have seen him. And now we testify and proclaim to you that he is the one who is eternal life. He was with the Father, and then he was revealed to us. We proclaim to you what we ourselves have actually seen and heard so that you may have fellowship with us. And our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son, Jesus Christ. We are writing these things so that you may fully share our joy. 1 John 1:1-4

My gratitude for today: Fellowship with God, family, and friends. Eternal salvation. Hope that is unending.

Prepare for the Sabbath

What do you do to get ready for the Sabbath? Do you keep a Sabbath day? Which day? How is it “holy” to you…to God?

God gives us some instruction through the prophet Isaiah about not pursuing our own interests on that day. Some people like to be told just what to do. When it comes to pleasing God…I like having some specific instructions. There are 135 verses (in NLT) that mention the Sabbath—so we’ve got plenty of guidance. We just have to apply it. These “instructions” begin even before the LORD gave Moses the Ten Commandments—which includes a specific one for observing the Sabbath.

Remember to observe the Sabbath day by keeping it holy. You have six days each week for your ordinary work, but the seventh day is a Sabbath day of rest dedicated to the LORD your God. On that day no one in your household may do any work. This includes you, your sons and daughters, your male and female servants, your livestock, and any foreigners living among you. For in six days the LORD made the heavens, the earth, the sea, and everything in them; but on the seventh day he rested. That is why the LORD blessed the Sabbath day and set it apart as holy. Exodus 20:8-11

Sunday has been traditionally my “Sabbath” day—but I recognize that the LORD set apart the seventh day…Saturday to be the Sabbath, so it has been a conundrum for me for years. Sunday is our church day—so that makes it a day to focus on the LORD, but I really feel that every day is the LORD’s day, so each day is a Sabbath day. God would be happy with that! But if no work can be done on the Sabbath—then nothing would ever get done! I don’t think that is God’s intent. We can—and should—honor Him every day. Not following our own desires or talking idly is a big challenge—but that is just what Isaiah told the Israelites…and us to do. It takes a focus on God. Can we do that?

Keep the Sabbath day holy. Don't pursue your own interests on that day, but enjoy the Sabbath and speak of it with delight as the LORD's holy day. Honor the Sabbath in everything you do on that day, and don't follow your own desires or talk idly. Isaiah 58:13

Meditate. Read God’s word and listen to what He is saying.

Prayer – Lord Jesus, help me to listen to You. To listen and obey.

Verse of Salvation ~ While Jesus was here on earth, he offered prayers and pleadings, with a loud cry and tears, to the one who could rescue him from death. And God heard his prayers because of his deep reverence for God. Even though Jesus was God's Son, he learned obedience from the things he suffered. In this way, God qualified him as a perfect High Priest, and he became the source of eternal salvation for all those who obey him. Hebrews 5:7-9

My gratitude for today: Visiting family. HOME! Growth and change.

Friday’s Feast at the King’s Table

Give us this day our Daily Bread.
Jesus body broken for you.
His blood shed for you.

In the book The Jesus Diet by Terry Toler, he has ten points or principles in which numerous scriptures are used to illustrate the theme. As I previously mentioned a couple days ago, the two most important elements are giving thanks for our food and daily recognizing the importance of Jesus’ sacrifice by observing the Lord’s supper. Other principles include honoring God, eating any foods—but not with a gluttonous attitude, and feeding or helping those in need—the hungry.

Today, consider the principle of eating when you are hungry and stopping when you are full. This is a concept that I’ve heard before and the idea is to eat slowly enough so that you know when you are actually full—before you get stuffed and over eat. Chewing our food thoroughly does help with digestion and we can actually enjoy the various flavors. Be careful how fast you eat and what you eat…but enjoy it!

After the Flood

Throwback Thursday—Looking at Past Posts—January 5, 2012

Genesis 8:20
Then Noah built an altar to the LORD, and took some of every kind of clean animal and some of every clean bird and offered burnt offerings on the altar. - Genesis 8:20 NASB20

Life-sized replica of Noah’s Ark
Kentucky - USA
The animals Noah sacrificed lived on the ark.
Noah built an altar to the Lord and took clean animals and clean birds and offered burnt offerings on the altar.  And the Lord smelled the soothing aroma.
A soothing aroma.  Ahhh—God was pleased with Noah’s offering.  We don’t think of burnt food as a pleasing aroma---but each to his own and it pleases God. This is a pattern that God later instituted for the Hebrew people.   Moses told pharaoh in Exodus 10:25 that he must let them have sacrifices (flocks & herds) and burnt offerings to sacrifice to the Lord our God.
Noah’s sacrifice seems to be one of Thanksgiving---not for sin.  Later in Leviticus 7:12-15 instructions are given for the sacrifices of thanksgiving.  It is offering needs to be totally eaten, not leaving any of it over until morning (v. 15).  The instructions to present unleavened and leavened bread seem contradictory.  Leaven usually represents sin---but in this situation it is presented as a peace offering to the Lord---and is eaten by the priest.
So it isn’t likely that Noah sat down and presented the offerings to God as a meal.  Scripture says he built an altar and offered burnt offerings which provided a soothing aroma.  May your sacrifices to the Lord represent a soothing aroma.  What sacrifices?  From Psalm 51:17, the sacrifices of God are a broken spirit.  A broken and contrite heart---that God will not despise.  Before you sit down to a meal with the Lord and offer Him thanks as Noah did, be sure that you have come with a heart that pleases Him.

Live in Harmony

Harmony with the French Horn
We can't all play the melody line.
Harmonize...together.
Live together in harmony. In a symphony each instrument has their own part of the score to play—in harmony. I love listening to a live orchestra, picking out the individual instruments and hearing them together blending their sounds. The conductor—the maestro—keeps the players all at the same tempo and blends the levels of sounds to be just perfect. I so appreciate all the musicians’ talents and dedication. Ahhhh. Live performance is superior to anything on television or radio. Will there be music in Heaven…what will it be like? God has an unlimited imagination—so although Revelation only refers to harps and voices, I like to imagine there will be more.

And I heard a sound from heaven like the roar of mighty ocean waves or the rolling of loud thunder. It was like the sound of many harpists playing together. This great choir sang a wonderful new song in front of the throne of God and before the four living beings and the twenty-four elders. No one could learn this song except the 144,000 who had been redeemed from the earth. Revelation 14:2-3

Living in harmony is more than just for music. For people to live in harmony they need be willing to accept others and blend their own wishes and desires to encourage—not just tolerate—others.

Accept other believers who are weak in faith, and don't argue with them about what they think is right or wrong. Romans 14:1

We should help others do what is right and build them up in the Lord. For even Christ didn't live to please himself. As the Scriptures say, "The insults of those who insult you, O God, have fallen on me." Such things were written in the Scriptures long ago to teach us. And the Scriptures give us hope and encouragement as we wait patiently for God's promises to be fulfilled. ... Therefore, accept each other just as Christ has accepted you so that God will be given glory. Romans 15:2-4, 7

Yes. It is good to live in harmony with others, accepting and encouraging them. God loves us—we should love others. Are you living in harmony? Good question for me…and you.

How wonderful and pleasant it is when brothers live together in harmony! Psalm 133:1 NLT

I appeal to you, dear brothers and sisters, by the authority of our Lord Jesus Christ, to live in harmony with each other. Let there be no divisions in the church. Rather, be of one mind, united in thought and purpose. 1 Corinthians 1:10

Meditate. Consider God’s guidance in scripture.

Prayer – Lord God, thank you for Your love and guidance in life.

Verse of Salvation ~ For God loved the world so much that he gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life. God sent his Son into the world not to judge the world, but to save the world through him. There is no judgment against anyone who believes in him. But anyone who does not believe in him has already been judged for not believing in God's one and only Son. John 3:16-18

My gratitude for today: Living in harmony. Watching birds fly—and feeling blessed. Knowing God loves us.

Birthday Blessings 1943-2025 – 82 and Counting!

How many 82 year-olds do you know? Probably quite a few since people are just living longer these days! My hubby, Jerry, has reached that point and like many his age he doesn’t look that old. He is still going strong. Not running in the Honolulu Marathon this year…although he did in 1982. He actually finished, too! It was a very good year. Now he walks at least a couple days a week…and gets out of the house every day! Good thing we pick up our mail at the Post Office so it gives him an excuse to drive over to Richland city proper. Then there are the two days a week he does Tai Chi, the trips to the car wash…breakfast out with the church guys twice a month and with my brother once a week. Fishing--whenever he can. Yes. We live to eat and eat to live. He is still active. He even road his bike a couple of time this past year. I think he’s taking a nap as I write this! Ha! Naps are important for us older folks.

Jerry’s favorite pastime is YouTube watching MonkeyWerx twice a week, and archeological shows about the pyramids that he visited in Egypt when he was there on an Air Force temporary assignment. Travel shows. Prepper and RV programs. Athey Creek at least once a month for the Prophecy Update. Just flipping through the YouTube offerings must certainly be entertaining since he often can spend an hour doing that or watching shorts. So much information out there. Who would have thought we’d ever have such an information explosion? Far greater than any encyclopedia could ever contain!

Bless the food, family, friends. That is his prayer several times a day. What is the focus of your daily prayers? The early believers were devoted to prayer…and to the Lord’s supper.

All the believers devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching, and to fellowship, and to sharing in meals (including the Lord's Supper), and to prayer. A deep sense of awe came over them all, and the apostles performed many miraculous signs and wonders. Acts 2:42-43

When was the last time you took communion—participated in the Lord’s Supper? I just finished a book that I thought would be just interesting…just another diet book, but it turned out to be a real encouraging book on following God’s plan for our lives. The Jesus Diet by Terry Toler. He has ten points or principles that he uses numerous scriptures to illustrate his theme. The two most important elements are giving thanks for our food and daily recognizing the importance of Jesus’ sacrifice by taking the Lord’s supper. Other principles include honoring God, eating any foods—but not with a gluttonous attitude, and feeding or helping those in need—the hungry.

The choice, as always, is up to each of us. How will you honor God today—with your heart, soul, mind, and body? Will you serve Him by caring for others?

So when they had finished breakfast, Jesus said to Simon Peter, "Simon, son of John, do you love Me more than these [others do--with total commitment and devotion]?" He said to Him, "Yes, Lord; You know that I love You [with a deep, personal affection, as for a close friend]." Jesus said to him, "Feed My lambs." John 21:15 AMP

Meditate. Consider your own birthday blessings.

Prayer – Lord God, thank you for long life and Your love.

Verse of Salvation ~ Even though the fig trees have no blossoms, and there are no grapes on the vines; even though the olive crop fails, and the fields lie empty and barren; even though the flocks die in the fields, and the cattle barns are empty, yet I will rejoice in the LORD! I will be joyful in the God of my salvation! The Sovereign LORD is my strength! He makes me as surefooted as a deer, able to tread upon the heights. Habakkuk 3:17-19

My gratitude for today: Long life. Joy to share. Choices.

Happy Birthday, Jerry!

Blessings and Much Love Always

Remembrance of Other’s Dedication

This is the day that the LORD has made…let us rejoice and be glad in it! Every day is the LORD’s day—but especially the days on which the Sabbath falls. Is everyday a Sabbath day? It is probably for someone. People can celebrate the Sabbath any day…but do they? I often wonder if the waitstaff at restaurants on Sundays…or even Saturdays…recognize another day as their Sabbath. But since today is Monday and Memorial Day, there may be some people who actually have this day off. Memorial Day is our annual recognition and remembrance of fallen soldiers throughout the history of the United States. Other countries remember their war heroes on other days. Here are a few examples:

January 29 – United Nations and other countries remember the Holocaust victims.

April 25 - Anzac Day in Australia and New Zealand commemorating those who fought in World War I (WW I).

April 29 – Romanian observance since 2007 to remember war veterans.

Iyar 4 (Hebrew calendar/April-May Gregorian calendar) - day of mourning for those who have died in Israeli wars.

May 4 – Dodenherdenking – Remembrance of the Dead – in the Netherlands remembering civilians and military who died in conflicts since WWII.

May 9 – Victory Day – Commemorating the Allied victory over Nazi Germany.

June 6 – South Korean commemorating those who died in Korean War and other conflicts.

November 11 – Remembrance Day marking the end of WW I for the United Kingdom, Canada and other Commonwealth nations, the US, and called Armistice Day in France.

Sunday closest to November 16 – a secular day of mourning for armed forces and civilians who died in conflicts since WW II.

Remembering those who have given their lives for others is important. They have made a sacrifice—laying down their lives much like Jesus did for all of mankind.

There is no greater love than to lay down one’s life for one’s friends. John 15:13

That is just what Jesus did. He laid His own life for each of us…His friends. But we are more than just friends. He is our creator, sustainer, redeemer, savior, and more, including friend. As our Savior, He gave up His life…laid it down at His Father’s command…and was the sacrifice for all the sins of mankind. Yours, mine…everyone’s. Only those who have faith, repent of their sin, and who accept Jesus’ sacrifice will inherit the Kingdom of God and eternal life.

Everyone has a choice to make. Accept Jesus as their Savior…or not. That selection will make a difference in where one spends eternity. I choose to accept Jesus and His sacrifice. How about you?

Cousin James Robert "Bob" Jeske
Viet Nam causality

There is no greater love than to lay down one’s life for one’s friends. John 15:13

Meditate. Consider sacrifices.

Prayer – Lord Jesus, thank you for humbly submitting to Your Heavenly Father and being willing to be the sacrifice for the sins of all mankind. We remember You on this Memorial Holiday…and every day for the ultimate sacrifice that You made and the inspiration You’ve been to so many military personnel over the history of mankind.

Verse of Salvation ~ For God presented Jesus as the sacrifice for sin. People are made right with God when they believe that Jesus sacrificed his life, shedding his blood. This sacrifice shows that God was being fair when he held back and did not punish those who sinned in times past, Romans 3:25

My gratitude for today: Sacrifices made for mankind. People who gave their hopes, dreams, homes, families, friends, livelihood and for their communities and country. Lasting friendships that are always evolving into closer relationships.

Can You Forgive?

Sketch of the church I grew up attending.
Warden Community Church.
Warden, Washington

Have you had a bad experience at church? Maybe someone insulted you or made you feel unworthy?

Forgiveness is the key. A special key—like the dual keys in Mission Impossible- Deadly Reckoning Part One—that will unlock the mystery of the Entity.

The Forgiveness Key. One half from your heart—one half from Jesus. Together that key takes away bitterness/resentment. It gives new life, renewed spiritual vitality, and allows love to flow in and through you. The River of Life, of love is Jesus.

Then the angel showed me a river with the water of life, clear as crystal, flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb. It flowed down the center of the main street. On each side of the river grew a tree of life, bearing twelve crops of fruit, with a fresh crop each month. The leaves were used for medicine to heal the nations. Revelation 22:1-2

He gave us love, forgiveness, and life—eternal life—as He took upon Himself the sin of the whole world throughout all time on the cross. Can you imagine the weight of all that sin? Over fifty-five years ago when I asked Jesus to forgive me for my sin, I felt such an enormous weight literally lift off my shoulders. At that point I’ve visualized that it was vaporized—never to return to me. It went through time to Jesus on the cross. What a tremendous joy I feel in my heart when I recall that. Jesus is so good—so loving. I am unworthy—but He stretches out His loving arms and wraps them around me anyway. That is agape love and I humbly accept it. No broken relationship with anyone, no insults or rejections from others, no bitterness, critical spirit, or unforgiveness from others will keep me from the love of God—the very love of Jesus. That is my choice.

Get rid of all bitterness, rage, anger, harsh words, and slander, as well as all types of evil behavior. Ephesians 4:31

Forgiveness is a big issue—an important factor in dealing with others, especially those in the church.

If you forgive those who sin against you, your heavenly Father will forgive you. But if you refuse to forgive others, your Father will not forgive your sins. Matthew 6:14-15

Look after each other so that none of you fails to receive the grace of God. Watch out that no poisonous root of bitterness grows up to trouble you, corrupting many. Hebrews 12:15

If you’ve been ignored, insulted, rejected, abused, bullied or banished by someone at a church you’ve attended, don’t give up on God.  It wasn’t God who rejected you…forgive and move on. The choice is yours.

Meditate. Consider if bitterness is ruining your relationship with God and with others.

Prayer – Lord God, open my eyes to how others perceive You in me. Help me to be open to forgiving others—because You have forgiven me of so much.

Verse of Salvation ~ Help us, O God of our salvation! Help us for the glory of your name. Save us and forgive our sins for the honor of your name. Psalm 79:9

My gratitude for today: Forgiveness—from God and for others. Love flowing through me to others. Peace that I feel because of Jesus’ love.

May is Mental Health Month – What Have You Done?

May is Mental Health Month—what have you done for yourself…for others?

Jesus fed 5,000 men plus women and children...
with five loaves of bread and two fish.
Have you shared your food today?

Dish from Israel depicting the "feeding" miracle.

As I look around my community, I see that the homeless and drug issues are basically also mental health issues. I’m not a trained psychologist or sociologist, but even I can see that there are problems and those in trouble need help. The Lord, through the prophet Isaiah, clearly tells those reading this portion of the Bible that we need to feed the hungry and help those in trouble. He also says that it is appropriate to give clothes to those in need and shelter to the homeless. According to the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), there were about 771,000 homeless people in 2024 in the United States.

What about people around you who look normal, healthy, and have a roof over their head—but just have mental problems? The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) gives an extended list of signs of mental illness. Their list of common signs in adults and teens included: excessive worry or fear; prolonged or strong feelings of irritability or anger; avoiding friends and social activities; difficulties understanding or relating to others; feeling excessively sad or low; extreme mood changes; including uncontrollable “highs” or feelings of euphoria; difficulty perceiving reality (delusions or hallucinations, in which a person experiences or senses things that don’t exist); overuse of substances like alcohol or drugs;; thinking about suicide; inability to carry out daily activities or handle daily problems or stress.

Jesus addressed some of these same issues—starting with worry.

That is why I tell you not to worry about everyday life—whether you have enough food and drink, or enough clothes to wear. Isn't life more than food, and your body more than clothing? Look at the birds. They don't plant or harvest or store food in barns, for your heavenly Father feeds them. And aren't you far more valuable to him than they are? Can all your worries add a single moment to your life? Matthew 6:25-27

Then Jesus said, "Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light." - Matthew 11:28-30

We are to give our worries, problems, concerns to Jesus. He will carry them…and us…with Him. He also says that we will have the poor with us always. All we can do is help with their immediate needs for now.

Are you willing to share your food with the hungry, give shelter to the homeless? Let your light shine out from the darkness? The choice is up to each of us to be the hands and feet of Jesus to those in need.

Share your food with the hungry, and give shelter to the homeless. Give clothes to those who need them, and do not hide from relatives who need your help. Then your salvation will come like the dawn, and your wounds will quickly heal. Your godliness will lead you forward, and the glory of the LORD will protect you from behind. Then when you call, the LORD will answer. 'Yes, I am here,' he will quickly reply. Remove the heavy yoke of oppression. Stop pointing your finger and spreading vicious rumors! Feed the hungry, and help those in trouble. Then your light will shine out from the darkness, and the darkness around you will be as bright as noon. The LORD will guide you continually, giving you water when you are dry and restoring your strength. You will be like a well-watered garden, like an ever-flowing spring. Isaiah 58:7-11

John replied, "If you have two shirts, give one to the poor. If you have food, share it with those who are hungry." Luke 3:11 NLT

Meditate. Consider what you can do for others.

Prayer – Lord Jesus, thank you for raising the awareness of mental illness in our communities and throughout the United States. Help us to be bold for You, to feed the hungry and help those in trouble.

Verse of Salvation ~ You (John the Baptist) will tell his people how to find salvation through forgiveness of their sins. Because of God's tender mercy, the morning light from heaven is about to break upon us, to give light to those who sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, and to guide us to the path of peace." Luke 1:77-79

My gratitude for today: Awareness of the plight of the homeless in the US—not just ignoring them. Hope for those who look to Jesus. Joy that I can share with family and friends.
