Prayer
– Lord God, show me what motivates me as I move through my day…moment by
moment. I know the choices I make a difference influence my final destination. I
choose You as my Lord and Savior. I choose to have the Holy Spirit guide my
thoughts, words and actions. I want an eternal life with You. Thank you—for
choosing me to be one of Your own children and for hearing my prayers.
Those
who are dominated by the sinful nature think about sinful things, but those who
are controlled by the Holy Spirit think about things that please the Spirit. So
letting your sinful nature control your mind leads to death. But letting the
Spirit control your mind leads to life and peace. For the sinful nature is
always hostile to God. It never did obey God's laws, and it never will. That's
why those who are still under the control of their sinful nature can never
please God. But you are not controlled by your sinful nature. You are
controlled by the Spirit if you have the Spirit of God living in you. (And
remember that those who do not have the Spirit of Christ living in them do not
belong to him at all.) And Christ lives within you, so even though your body
will die because of sin, the Spirit gives you life because you have been made
right with God. The Spirit of God, who raised Jesus from the dead, lives in
you. And just as God raised Christ Jesus from the dead, he will give life to
your mortal bodies by this same Spirit living within you. Romans 8:5-11The Dove
Representative of the Holy Spirit.
Is the Holy Spirit living in you?
Meditate.
Read the above scripture again. What is God revealing to you?
What
drives your thoughts? Dominates your thinking pattern? Dominates. That is a
powerful word. A sinful nature…Satan? The Holy Spirit? Who is in control of
your thoughts…and thus of your words and actions? You might be thinking…I’m in
control! But what influences your ideas and opinions? As you reflect on or
recall what you’ve contemplated so far today you may be surprised.
Paul was
telling the people of the church at Rome that we can let the sinful nature or
the Holy Spirit control our minds. That was a couple of thousand years ago. The
same advice is good for us today. We have a choice.
Thoughts
controlled by the sinful nature, Satan, lead to death—sometimes called the
second death. It is the final death. Note that the sinful nature is hostile to
God—unbelieving and rebellious.
"But cowards, unbelievers, the
corrupt, murderers, the immoral, those who practice witchcraft, idol
worshipers, and all liars—their fate is in the fiery lake of burning sulfur.
This is the second death." Revelation
21:8 NLT
God’s
chosen people—those who respond allow the Holy Spirit to guide their hearts and
minds—will be raised from the dead like Christ someday. What a glorious day
that will be.
Blessed and holy are those who
share in the first resurrection. For them the second death holds no power, but
they will be priests of God and of Christ and will reign with him a thousand
years. Revelation
20:6
God chose
you. What do you choose today? To follow God’s plan for your life…your destiny…or
to follow your own ideas…to a fate that is not with God for eternity.

of Salvation ~ Help us, O God of our salvation! Help us for the glory of your
name. Save us and forgive our sins for the honor of your name. Psalm 79:9 NLT
