Prayer
– Lord – Open my eyes to the truth that You are the Great Physician, that You
love us enough to die for us, and that You can and will heal us. Glory and
honor to You.
When
he came to the village of Nazareth, his boyhood home, he went as usual to the
synagogue on the Sabbath and stood up to read the Scriptures. The scroll of
Isaiah the prophet was handed to him. He unrolled the scroll and found the
place where this was written: "The Spirit of the LORD is upon me, for he
has anointed me to bring Good News to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim that
captives will be released, that the blind will see, that the oppressed will be
set free, and that the time of the LORD's favor has come." He rolled up
the scroll, handed it back to the attendant, and sat down. All eyes in the
synagogue looked at him intently. Then he began to speak to them. "The
Scripture you've just heard has been fulfilled this very day!" Everyone
spoke well of him and was amazed by the gracious words that came from his lips.
"How can this be?" they asked. "Isn't this Joseph's son?"
Then he said, "You will undoubtedly quote me this proverb: 'Physician,
heal yourself'—meaning, 'Do miracles here in your hometown like those you did
in Capernaum.' But I tell you the truth, no prophet is accepted in his own hometown.
Luke 4:16-24 The Spirit of the Lord was on Jesus.
The Holy Spirit was within Him.
Is He in you?
Meditate. Think about Old and New Testament passages.
Jesus read from Isaiah 61:1-2 and told the people there at the Synagogue in Nazareth that the scripture had been fulfilled that day. “How can that be?” was their response. They should have been jumping for joy…He came to bring salvation to the (spiritually) poor, to heal the blind and set captives free. Captives? Those in bondage physically, mentally, emotionally, or spiritually? There’s a lot of power in that statement. They wanted to see Jesus do a miracle, but it wasn’t possible IF they didn’t believe in Him.
Is that
the same today? Are miracles impossible if people don’t believe? How about the
converse? Are miracles evident or probable if people believe? If miracles don’t
happen, does it mean that there are unbelievers looking for a sign from Jesus—testing
Him? Do you ever choose to test Jesus like that? The Lord challenged Malachi to
put Him to the test as He was calling them to repentance.
Bring all the tithes into the
storehouse so there will be enough food in my Temple. If you do," says the
LORD of Heaven's Armies, "I will open the windows of heaven for you. I
will pour out a blessing so great you won't have enough room to take it in! Try
it! Put me to the test! Malachi
3:10
The Lord
does want people to “test” Him so that He can show that He is listening to our
prayers, to show that He loves us, and to demonstrate His mighty power. Nothing
is too big for Him.
Verse of Salvation ~ In Jerusalem, the LORD of Heaven's Armies will spread a wonderful feast for all the people of the world. It will be a delicious banquet with clear, well-aged wine and choice meat. There he will remove the cloud of gloom, the shadow of death that hangs over the earth. He will swallow up death forever! The Sovereign LORD will wipe away all tears. He will remove forever all insults and mockery against his land and people. The LORD has spoken! In that day the people will proclaim, "This is our God! We trusted in him, and he saved us! This is the LORD, in whom we trusted. Let us rejoice in the salvation he brings!" Isaiah 25:6-9
