Do You Honor or Defile Your Body?

Prayer – Lord God, You’ve made it clear that You desire us to be pure and holy. That is just what I desire, too.

Because we have these promises, dear friends, let us cleanse ourselves from everything that can defile our body or spirit. And let us work toward complete holiness because we fear God. 2 Corinthians 7:1

Meditate.

What “defiles” your body or spirit?

This passage today is taken from Second Corinthians chapter seven and refers to “these promises” which are found at the end of chapter six. God’s promises are to be our God and Father…if we aren’t sharing our lives with unbelievers and their idols. Purity is what He desires since we are the Temple of the Holy Spirit.

There is no lack of love on our part, but you have withheld your love from us. I am asking you to respond as if you were my own children. Open your hearts to us! Don't team up with those who are unbelievers. How can righteousness be a partner with wickedness? How can light live with darkness? What harmony can there be between Christ and the devil? How can a believer be a partner with an unbeliever? And what union can there be between God's temple and idols? For we are the temple of the living God. As God said: "I will live in them and walk among them. I will be their God, and they will be my people. Therefore, come out from among unbelievers, and separate yourselves from them, says the LORD. Don't touch their filthy things, and I will welcome you. And I will be your Father, and you will be my sons and daughters, says the LORD Almighty." 2 Corinthians 6:12-18

So humble yourselves before God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Come close to God, and God will come close to you. Wash your hands, you sinners; purify your hearts, for your loyalty is divided between God and the world. Let there be tears for what you have done. Let there be sorrow and deep grief. Let there be sadness instead of laughter, and gloom instead of joy. Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up in honor. James 4:7-10

We have heard what God wants. Are we listening? We have choices to make. What is your choice today…righteous living for and with the Lord or partnerships with unbelievers? James makes it clear that we chose between sadness and joy. I choose to humble myself before God.

Verse of Salvation ~ So I am willing to endure anything if it will bring salvation and eternal glory in Christ Jesus to those God has chosen. 2 Timothy 2:10
