Honor Your Loved Ones

Prayer – Lord Jesus, You gave us a good example of honoring Your loved ones when You raised Lazareth from the dead and when You directed John to care for Mary as his mother when You were hanging on the cross. Help me to remember and honor those in my life who have passed one. Thank you for the wonderful Christian people that have been part of my family and my life. May we always honor You.

Meditate. Consider God’s guidance in scripture.

Today would have been my sister, Shirley’s, 76th birthday. Unfortunately, she was a victim of domestic violence incident on December 8, 1989. Here’s my tribute to her about her first visit to meet our great grandparents.

Aunt Norma and Shirley

  Shirley and Her Lamby

“Welcome!  Oh, I am so glad you are here! Let me see that sweet baby girl!”

Great-grandma Mackey opened the screen door and shouted into the house. “They’re here. Come out here Grandpa.” Then she took the hands of little Shirley Mae who had just turned one year old and danced around the yard. Precious little ringlets of hair topped her head and graced her smiling, angelic face. Such a happy toddler.

Reuben and Dorothy, with little Shirley, had traveled 470 miles from their home in Warden, Washington to Dorothy’s grandparents’ home in Twin Falls, Idaho. It was the very same house that Dorothy had been born in just over twenty years earlier. Now, in the summer of 1949, it was a long hot journey across eastern Washington, Oregon and half-way across Idaho to Twin Falls to see these grandparents and other relatives. They had stopped along the way at Baker City, Oregon, for lunch and arrived at the Mackey’s home early in the evening—just in time for supper.

Aunt Norma and Uncle Bud drove up in their car just then. They lived a few short miles away and often visited Norma’s folks—checking on them and taking them to the grocery store when they needed something. They picked up Aunt Mae, Grandma Mackey’s sister, along the way and she tottered up the sidewalk behind them. She was a short little spinster of a lady with a smile that stretched from ear to ear. Hugs and more hugs. Everyone was bubbling with happy greetings.

Norma was enthralled with little Shirley. Norma and Bud didn’t have children of their own—and growing up Dorothy was a favorite niece who spent lots of time with them until Dorothy’s family moved over 550 miles away to the Portland area when she was just a teenager. They didn’t get to see much of Dorothy after that. They were thrilled that Reuben and Dorothy had made the long trip with baby Shirley. Norma took a gift from a bag and gave it to Shirley. It was a cuddly little lamb—just the friend that Shirley clung to—hugging it for all she was worth.

“Well, let’s all go inside and have some cool iced tea and some roast beef. I’ve been cooking this pot roast all day.”

“Oh—Mama! The house is so hot! Let’s eat outside—here by the porch in the shade.” So, at Norma’s suggestion they pulled some chairs from the house and enjoyed dinner under the huge maple trees. Picnicking right in their own yard. Aunt Mae shook her head a bit at that. They all should be eating around the table in the dining room—but it was much more pleasant in the shade and she soon was shedding her sweater and her “proper” ideals for a comfortable chair and a cool glass of tea with the family.

Little Shirley, who had just recently started walking, stepped around the circle of family showing everyone her new little lamb. Smiling and teasing them by giving them the lamb and then snatching it back. “Lamby” was as popular with all the family as that dear little princess.

Their visit was short—but oh so sweet—and filled that need in Dorothy’s life to reconnect with family and share in the joy of her first child, Sweet Shirley Mae.

Family. A time to remember. A time to rejoice in the relationships that bonded us forever—to Christ and to each other. I’m honoring the memory of Shirley and of all these family members who have passed.

Verse of Salvation ~ "Brothers (and Sisters)—you sons of Abraham, and also you God-fearing Gentiles--this message of salvation has been sent to us! Acts 13:26

Happy Heavenly Birthday to Sweet Sister, Shirley.

Miss you…still.

Refuse to Believe?

Prayer – Lord Jesus, how could anyone refuse to believe in You…and in Your power to heal and do miracles? I believe in You and Your power! I love You with all of my mind, heart, soul, and strength.

Jesus left that part of the country and returned with his disciples to Nazareth, his hometown. The next Sabbath he began teaching in the synagogue, and many who heard him were amazed. They asked, "Where did he get all this wisdom and the power to perform such miracles?" Then they scoffed, "He's just a carpenter, the son of Mary and the brother of James, Joseph, Judas, and Simon. And his sisters live right here among us." They were deeply offended and refused to believe in him. Then Jesus told them, "A prophet is honored everywhere except in his own hometown and among his relatives and his own family." And because of their unbelief, he couldn't do any miracles among them except to place his hands on a few sick people and heal them. And he was amazed at their unbelief. Then Jesus went from village to village, teaching the people. Mark 6:1-6

Meditate. Consider Jesus’ blood shed for you.

Jesus had just done some awesome miracles in the region of Gerasene which is in the northern area of the Sea of Galilee. It was mostly a Gentile area—that’s where the pigs ran off the hillside and drown in the Sea of Galilee. He also healed a demon possessed man and raised a little girl from the dead. Now He and His disciples were in Nazareth, where He’d grown up. The people there refused to believe in Him. Refused. Rejected Him. Denied Him. Have you ever been rejected? Not like Jesus was rejected…but maybe you weren’t picked for a sports team, or as a cheerleader, or even for some job promotion? Opportunities went by the wayside and doors closed. It was a little deeper than that for Jesus. If you read this account in Luke 4:16-30 you’ll see that those people of Nazareth wanted to throw Him off a cliff. To kill Him. That is pretty extreme—but it wasn’t His time to die yet and He escaped.

When they heard this, the people in the synagogue were furious. Jumping up, they mobbed him and forced him to the edge of the hill on which the town was built. They intended to push him over the cliff, but he passed right through the crowd and went on his way. Luke 4:28-30

Jesus isn’t here with us now—but if He were, would you believe? Do you believe in His power without Him being right here? Jesus spoke to His disciple, specifically Thomas, who didn’t believe without seeing Jesus after His resurrection.

Jesus said, "Blessed are those who believe
...without seeing Me."
Drama of the Last Supper
Richland Nazarene Church

Then Jesus told him, "You believe because you have seen me. Blessed are those who believe without seeing me." John 20:29

Be blessed. It is your choice—but I hope that you don’t refuse to believe in Jesus. He has the power to save all who call on Him. Ask Him to forgive your sins. He won’t refuse.

Verse of Salvation ~ Keep a close watch on how you live and on your teaching. Stay true to what is right for the sake of your own salvation and the salvation of those who hear you. 1 Timothy 4:16

Anyone With Ears

Prayer – Lord Jesus, You want people to listen—and no where is that more evident that in the Book of Revelation. Open my ears—as well as my heart—to know You and Your promises. I’m trusting in You to keep Your promises.

Anyone with ears to hear must listen to the Spirit and understand what he is saying to the churches. To everyone who is victorious I will give fruit from the tree of life in the paradise of God. Revelation 2:7

Anyone with ears to hear must listen to the Spirit and understand what he is saying to the churches. Whoever is victorious will not be harmed by the second death. Revelation 2:11

Anyone with ears to hear must listen to the Spirit and understand what he is saying to the churches. To everyone who is victorious I will give some of the manna that has been hidden away in heaven. And I will give to each one a white stone, and on the stone will be engraved a new name that no one understands except the one who receives it. Revelation 2:17

To all who are victorious, who obey me to the very end, To them I will give authority over all the nations. They will rule the nations with an iron rod and smash them like clay pots. They will have the same authority I received from my Father, and I will also give them the morning star! Anyone with ears to hear must listen to the Spirit and understand what he is saying to the churches. Revelation 2:26-29

All who are victorious will be clothed in white. I will never erase their names from the Book of Life, but I will announce before my Father and his angels that they are mine. Anyone with ears to hear must listen to the Spirit and understand what he is saying to the churches. Revelation 3:5-6

All who are victorious will become pillars in the Temple of my God, and they will never have to leave it. And I will write on them the name of my God, and they will be citizens in the city of my God--the new Jerusalem that comes down from heaven from my God. And I will also write on them my new name. Anyone with ears to hear must listen to the Spirit and understand what he is saying to the churches. Revelation 3:12-13

Those who are victorious will sit with me on my throne, just as I was victorious and sat with my Father on his throne. Anyone with ears to hear must listen to the Spirit and understand what he is saying to the churches. Revelation 3:21-22

Meditate. Consider God’s promises for listening.

God keeps His promises.
No floods for the entire earth.
Look for His promises for you.

Promises. Promises. The promises to those who listen are such wonderful, victorious promises. God is well known to keep His promises. Listen closely to what He is saying and to His promises.
I prayed to the LORD my God and confessed: "O Lord, you are a great and awesome God! You always fulfill your covenant and keep your promises of unfailing love to those who love you and obey your commands.” Daniel 9:4 (Underlined for emphasis.)
God made promises to Abraham and his descendants—that He would give them the Promised Land…and He did. Jesus promised that He would go and prepare a place for us…and that He would come back for us when everything was ready.
Don't let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God, and trust also in me. There is more than enough room in my Father's home. If this were not so, would I have told you that I am going to prepare a place for you? When everything is ready, I will come and get you, so that you will always be with me where I am. John 14:1-3
Is that place just about ready? It takes a while to build a really great house—but after about two thousand years is it almost finished? I’m trusting in the Lord to keep His promises. Have you made the choice to trust Him, too?

Verse of Salvation ~ After this, I heard what sounded like a vast crowd in heaven shouting, "Praise the LORD! Salvation and glory and power belong to our God. Revelation 19:1

LISTEN

Prayer – Lord, I am listening to Your word…reading it often, if not daily, and I’m obsessed with getting to know You better day by day. To love someone—you have to know them! Please reveal more of Yourself to me every day!

Serve only the LORD your God and fear him alone. Obey his commands, listen to his voice, and cling to him. Deuteronomy 13:4

Meditate. To what or whom are you listening?

From the Ten Commandments we learn that we are to love God and to love others. Love …show respect. One way to show respect is to LISTEN. To listen intentionally with one’s whole heart, soul and mind. A couple of speakers in RightNow media presentations have encouraged their audience to take time to “get alone with God” and that is just what I did the last couple of days. God had to take me away from others…to give me a time of “retreat” in order to show this lesson. I went to a friend’s cabin for a STORYWRITERS planning session—and God had other plans for me. A little time of insomnia, as well as a few hours of driving alone, allowed me to focus on Him and listen.

I love the mountains—I love the ocean beaches—I love being out on rivers or lakes in a kayak or canoe—I just enjoy the outdoors—and listening to the sounds of nature…birds, squirrels, the wind in the trees. The Lord has really impressed on me that I need to listen…not just to the sounds I hear or don’t want to hear like the neighborhood big barking dog (ugh)—but to listen to His words and how I can apply them to my life. I have that choice. Listen and obey…or do “life” my way. I choose to Listen to God and to listen to others. Love God…love others.

Verse of Salvation ~ So I want you to know that this salvation from God has also been offered to the Gentiles, and they will accept it. Acts 28:28

Do You Have a Bounty of Food on Your Table?

Prayer ~ Lord God, Thank You for the bounty of the wonderful meals You have provided. May You be glorified—for You are worthy of glory and praise.

Then Jesus called to the crowd to come and hear. "All of you listen," he said, "and try to understand. It's not what goes into your body that defiles you; you are defiled by what comes from your heart." ... Then Jesus went into a house to get away from the crowd, and his disciples asked him what he meant by the parable he had just used. "Don't you understand either?" he asked. "Can't you see that the food you put into your body cannot defile you? Food doesn't go into your heart, but only passes through the stomach and then goes into the sewer." (By saying this, he declared that every kind of food is acceptable in God's eyes.) And then he added, "It is what comes from inside that defiles you. For from within, out of a person's heart, come evil thoughts, sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery, greed, wickedness, deceit, lustful desires, envy, slander, pride, and foolishness. All these vile things come from within; they are what defile you." Mark 7:14-15, 17-23

Any kind of food is acceptable to eat. Still there are some foods that you want to be sure to pray over…to consecrate…before you eat them. By this scripture it is all right to eat foods that you wouldn’t normally eat…like my young grandson suggested…fried tarantulas, gator kabobs, silkworms or even grilled chicken feet. When a friend of mine found a chicken foot in the tasty soup she was enjoying in Portugal, that was the end of the meal for her. Even some people in the old days flavored their chicken soup with chicken feet. I discovered that you can buy them in some stores, like a local Mexican grocery.

Does your diet honor the Lord? How many candy bars have you treated yourself to this month? Do you give thanks before chomping down those chocolates? What foods do you refuse to eat? Brussels sprouts? Try cooking them in chicken broth (without chicken feet!). It is amazing how they are not bitter when cooked that way.

Those who worship the Lord on a special day do it to honor him. Those who eat any kind of food do so to honor the Lord, since they give thanks to God before eating. And those who refuse to eat certain foods also want to please the Lord and give thanks to God. Romans 14:6

It is interesting to note that in the Old Testament people were encouraged to give thanks…a blessing…after the meal and it was actually for the land, not actually for the food.

So obey the commands of the LORD your God by walking in his ways and fearing him. For the LORD your God is bringing you into a good land of flowing streams and pools of water, with fountains and springs that gush out in the valleys and hills. It is a land of wheat and barley; of grapevines, fig trees, and pomegranates; of olive oil and honey. It is a land where food is plentiful and nothing is lacking. It is a land where iron is as common as stone, and copper is abundant in the hills. When you have eaten your fill, be sure to praise the LORD your God for the good land he has given you. But that is the time to be careful! Beware that in your plenty you do not forget the LORD your God and disobey his commands, regulations, and decrees that I am giving you today. Deuteronomy 8:6-11

Now the Jewish ritual is not just a simple prayer, but depends specifically on the foods that were consumed. There is a long list of foods and blessings available in Jewish resources and on-line. Google it.

Jesus gave thanks…a blessing to the Lord God, before the meal, like when He fed the five thousand men and their families. Jesus seems to have initiate the pre-meal blessing routine that most Christians follow today. This type of blessing consecrates, makes holy, the food before we it is consumed.

Then Jesus took the loaves, gave thanks to God, and distributed them to the people. Afterward he did the same with the fish. And they all ate as much as they wanted. John 6:11

Jews today have a traditional blessing before their meal that is dependent on the food that is to be served. Likewise, after the meal a specific grace is offered for the particular foods eaten, particularly in accordance with the seven food groups listed in Deuteronomy 8. No matter whether you give thanks before, after, or both, and no matter what you eat or drink…

So whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God. 1 Corinthians 10:31

Can you choose to share that bounty of food with others?

Verse of Salvation and Thanksgiving ~ But giving thanks is a sacrifice that truly honors me. If you keep to my path, I will reveal to you the salvation of God. Psalm 50:23

Behold the Great Physician

Prayer – Lord – Open my eyes to the truth that You are the Great Physician, that You love us enough to die for us, and that You can and will heal us. Glory and honor to You.

The Spirit of the Lord was on Jesus.
The Holy Spirit was within Him.
Is He in you?
When he came to the village of Nazareth, his boyhood home, he went as usual to the synagogue on the Sabbath and stood up to read the Scriptures. The scroll of Isaiah the prophet was handed to him. He unrolled the scroll and found the place where this was written: "The Spirit of the LORD is upon me, for he has anointed me to bring Good News to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim that captives will be released, that the blind will see, that the oppressed will be set free, and that the time of the LORD's favor has come." He rolled up the scroll, handed it back to the attendant, and sat down. All eyes in the synagogue looked at him intently. Then he began to speak to them. "The Scripture you've just heard has been fulfilled this very day!" Everyone spoke well of him and was amazed by the gracious words that came from his lips. "How can this be?" they asked. "Isn't this Joseph's son?" Then he said, "You will undoubtedly quote me this proverb: 'Physician, heal yourself'—meaning, 'Do miracles here in your hometown like those you did in Capernaum.' But I tell you the truth, no prophet is accepted in his own hometown. Luke 4:16-24

Meditate. Think about Old and New Testament passages.

Jesus read from Isaiah 61:1-2 and told the people there at the Synagogue in Nazareth that the scripture had been fulfilled that day. “How can that be?” was their response. They should have been jumping for joy…He came to bring salvation to the (spiritually) poor, to heal the blind and set captives free. Captives? Those in bondage physically, mentally, emotionally, or spiritually? There’s a lot of power in that statement. They wanted to see Jesus do a miracle, but it wasn’t possible IF they didn’t believe in Him.

Is that the same today? Are miracles impossible if people don’t believe? How about the converse? Are miracles evident or probable if people believe? If miracles don’t happen, does it mean that there are unbelievers looking for a sign from Jesus—testing Him? Do you ever choose to test Jesus like that? The Lord challenged Malachi to put Him to the test as He was calling them to repentance.

Bring all the tithes into the storehouse so there will be enough food in my Temple. If you do," says the LORD of Heaven's Armies, "I will open the windows of heaven for you. I will pour out a blessing so great you won't have enough room to take it in! Try it! Put me to the test! Malachi 3:10

The Lord does want people to “test” Him so that He can show that He is listening to our prayers, to show that He loves us, and to demonstrate His mighty power. Nothing is too big for Him.

Verse of Salvation ~ In Jerusalem, the LORD of Heaven's Armies will spread a wonderful feast for all the people of the world. It will be a delicious banquet with clear, well-aged wine and choice meat. There he will remove the cloud of gloom, the shadow of death that hangs over the earth. He will swallow up death forever! The Sovereign LORD will wipe away all tears. He will remove forever all insults and mockery against his land and people. The LORD has spoken! In that day the people will proclaim, "This is our God! We trusted in him, and he saved us! This is the LORD, in whom we trusted. Let us rejoice in the salvation he brings!" Isaiah 25:6-9

Friday’s Feast at the King’s Table

Summer colds and sinus or ear infections can be the pits—but with many this summer it is reality—just like in the spring, fall, and winter! When you or someone in your family is sick it is hard to remember just what you should do to treat that cold—and hopefully prevent the necessity of going to the doctor. Here’s a Cold To Do List that I recently put together to remind myself and my husband as he battled a cold.

What to do When You or a Loved One Has a Cold – To Do List

1.      Pray

2.      Take the sick one’s temperature and dress appropriately

3.      Drink LOTS of water and other fluids

4.      Drink fresh orange juice – if I drink a quart of OJ, I’m usually cured!

5.      Gargle with warm salt water

6.      Make & serve Chicken Soup

7.      Drink Hot Lemon & Honey

8.      Take the appropriate fever med if necessary

9.    My doctor recommended Mucinex the last time I was sick (or use other cold tablets)

10.  Nasal wash/spray
Hot packs on your ears/sinuses, as needed
Rest / Extra Sleep with extra blankets on the bed

Do You Have Regrets?

Prayer – Lord Jesus, I hope that I’m doing everything right. Sometime I sin—goof up without thinking. That’s the key—thoughtless actions from subconscious selfishness. The human nature…gotta ya! That’s what sometimes happens before I get my thoughts and actions in control. Thanks for bringing this to my attention. I know You’ve got my back. You told everyone You healed or came in contact with to “Repent." I’m listening…and obeying.

Stop. Turn from Sin.
Repent.

For the kind of sorrow God wants us to experience leads us away from sin and results in salvation. There's no regret for that kind of sorrow. But worldly sorrow, which lacks repentance, results in spiritual death. Just see what this godly sorrow produced in you! Such earnestness, such concern to clear yourselves, such indignation, such alarm, such longing to see me, such zeal, and such a readiness to punish wrong. You showed that you have done everything necessary to make things right. 2 Corinthians 7:10-11

Meditate. Consider God’s provision for salvation.

Sin is willful transgression of the known laws of God, but Susanna Wesley stated it beautifully. She was the mother of John Wesley, who asked her one day, “What is Sin?” She answered, “Whatever weakens your reasoning, impairs the tenderness of your conscience, obscures your sense of God, or takes away your relish for spiritual things, in short, if anything increases the authority of the flesh over the spirit, that to you becomes sin, however good it is in itself.”

Repentance—that turning away from sin—leads to salvation. Paul gave good advice to the people of the Corinth church and they were doing everything necessary to make things right. Good for them. Helpful advice to everyone listening today. Just as Jesus taught…repent. That is still the key to eternal spiritual life. No cause for Godly sorrow or indignation necessary. That eternal salvation is going to be worth the wait…and worth the trials and tribulation that we may still have to go through before Christ calls us home to Heaven with Him. But choose to seek that repentance day by day before it is too late. We don’t know how much time we have left. Will you be left with regrets?

Verse of Salvation ~ God saved you by his grace when you believed. And you can't take credit for this; it is a gift from God. Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have done, so none of us can boast about it. For we are God's masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago. Ephesians 2:8-10

Do You Honor or Defile Your Body?

Prayer – Lord God, You’ve made it clear that You desire us to be pure and holy. That is just what I desire, too.

Purity of the Water Lily
Yakima River near West Richland, WA

Because we have these promises, dear friends, let us cleanse ourselves from everything that can defile our body or spirit. And let us work toward complete holiness because we fear God. 2 Corinthians 7:1

Meditate.

What “defiles” your body or spirit?

This passage today is taken from Second Corinthians chapter seven and refers to “these promises” which are found at the end of chapter six. God’s promises are to be our God and Father…if we aren’t sharing our lives with unbelievers and their idols. Purity is what He desires since we are the Temple of the Holy Spirit.

There is no lack of love on our part, but you have withheld your love from us. I am asking you to respond as if you were my own children. Open your hearts to us! Don't team up with those who are unbelievers. How can righteousness be a partner with wickedness? How can light live with darkness? What harmony can there be between Christ and the devil? How can a believer be a partner with an unbeliever? And what union can there be between God's temple and idols? For we are the temple of the living God. As God said: "I will live in them and walk among them. I will be their God, and they will be my people. Therefore, come out from among unbelievers, and separate yourselves from them, says the LORD. Don't touch their filthy things, and I will welcome you. And I will be your Father, and you will be my sons and daughters, says the LORD Almighty." 2 Corinthians 6:12-18

So humble yourselves before God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Come close to God, and God will come close to you. Wash your hands, you sinners; purify your hearts, for your loyalty is divided between God and the world. Let there be tears for what you have done. Let there be sorrow and deep grief. Let there be sadness instead of laughter, and gloom instead of joy. Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up in honor. James 4:7-10

We have heard what God wants. Are we listening? We have choices to make. What is your choice today…righteous living for and with the Lord or partnerships with unbelievers? James makes it clear that we chose between sadness and joy. I choose to humble myself before God.

Verse of Salvation ~ So I am willing to endure anything if it will bring salvation and eternal glory in Christ Jesus to those God has chosen. 2 Timothy 2:10

Believe?

Prayer – Lord God, holiness unto You!

God the Father knew you and chose you long ago, and his Spirit has made you holy. As a result, you have obeyed him and have been cleansed by the blood of Jesus Christ. May God give you more and more grace and peace. 1 Peter 1:2

Meditate. Chosen. Holy.

What does holiness mean to you? Holiness is state of being holy. It is purity, perfect moral integrity.

What do you see?
Glory?

How can we honor the Lord—the ultimate in holiness?

Honor the LORD for the glory of his name. Worship the LORD in the splendor of his holiness. Psalm 29:2

Worship the Lord. He is holy. Through the blood of Jesus, we have been purified and made holy. God works altogether. The Father chooses us; the Son Jesus covers us with His blood given as the sacrifice for our sins; and the Holy Spirit makes us holy. Obedience to God allows us to be holy and to be given God’s grace and peace. Grace—unmerited favor. We don’t deserve any gifts, partiality, even love from God, but He lavishes it on us anyway. Our obedience, rather than rebellion is pleasing to the Lord.

Once you were dead because of your disobedience and your many sins. You used to live in sin, just like the rest of the world, obeying the devil--the commander of the powers in the unseen world. He is the spirit at work in the hearts of those who refuse to obey God. All of us used to live that way, following the passionate desires and inclinations of our sinful nature. By our very nature we were subject to God's anger, just like everyone else. But God is so rich in mercy, and he loved us so much, that even though we were dead because of our sins, he gave us life when he raised Christ from the dead. (It is only by God's grace that you have been saved!) For he raised us from the dead along with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms because we are united with Christ Jesus. So God can point to us in all future ages as examples of the incredible wealth of his grace and kindness toward us, as shown in all he has done for us who are united with Christ Jesus. God saved you by his grace when you believed. And you can't take credit for this; it is a gift from God. Ephesians 2:1-8

Our choice is to obediently believe…or not. What choice have you made today?

Verses of Salvation ~ All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. It is by his great mercy that we have been born again, because God raised Jesus Christ from the dead. Now we live with great expectation, and we have a priceless inheritance—an inheritance that is kept in heaven for you, pure and undefiled, beyond the reach of change and decay. And through your faith, God is protecting you by his power until you receive this salvation, which is ready to be revealed on the last day for all to see. 1 Peter 1:3-5
