Perfect Love Casts Out Fear

Prayer – Lord, perfect love. How can it be? That is the love that You have showed to mankind—creating us in Your image and then being willing to die for us. Perfect love.

Love has been perfected among us in this: that we may have boldness in the day of judgment; because as He is, so are we in this world. There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves torment. But he who fears has not been made perfect in love. We love Him because He first loved us. 1 John 4:17-19 NKJV (Underlined for emphasis.)

Meditate. Consider perfection.

Can you imagine perfection? What does that mean to you?

Perfect Love Casts Out Fear

Perfect love casts out fear. Perfect. According to Strong’s Lexicon, perfect mean nothing needed to complete it; brought to an end, finished. Remember Jesus’ last words on the cross.

He said, "It is finished!" And bowing His head, He gave up His spirit. John 19:30b NKJV

It is finished. His work on earth was done—completed in accordance with the expectations of God the Father. It was perfect. There was no more to be done. Perfect love had been accomplished by Jesus’ death on the cross. His perfect love for all of mankind. For you and for me. That perfect love eliminated any fear. Fear comes from Satan—not from God. Jesus eliminated that fear in us by shedding His blood—sacrificing His very life to redeem us from sin and the power of death. There is no fear in love.

Do you feel fear when you think of Jesus? He expects us to repent of our sin…and that repentance, done in love towards Him, casts out fear. There you go. No fear. No need to be afraid. Jesus is our protector…our shepherd…our Savior. Perfect love casts out fear.
