On Earth as It Is in Heaven

Prayer – Lord, show me what it means for things to be the same here on earth…as it is in Heaven. 

In this manner, therefore, pray: Our Father in heaven, hallowed be Your name. Your kingdom come. Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Matthew 6:9-10 NKJV

 

Meditate on Heaven.

 

What is heaven like? We don’t have a lot of details about heaven. We do know that the Throne of God is there…and He sits on that Throne. There are other thrones—one at the right hand of the Father, where Jesus sits now, and twenty-four other thrones for the twenty-four elders (see Revelation 4:4). Additionally, see Revelation 21 and 22 for a description of the New Jerusalem that comes down from heaven, including the foundation, size, gates, jeweled adornments, a river of life, and fruit trees. Is this heaven on earth? John wrote about the new heaven and new earth, because the old ones had passed away. They were destroyed by God and replace with new, pure creations.

The King James Version states “in earth as it is in heaven” using “in” for both locations, but they are different words. “In” earth is noted in the Strong’s concordance as G1909, meaning upon, whereas the “in” heaven, G 1722 denoted a fixed place or time. On earth…in heaven. God has a plan. He designed and gave the plans for the Tabernacle that Moses had the Israelites build on their journey to the Promised Land. God also designed to the last detail the Temple that Solomon built to honor Him. Designed in heaven for an earthly dwelling for God Himself. What does the future hold for God’s plan and designs? We can search the scriptures…and see what unfolds in the months and years ahead. We can only serve Him during our lifetime and trust Him for the hope of His promises.

 

God chooses His will in heaven to be done on earth. It is our choice to listen to Him…and do His will or not. Are you listening to Him today? What is He telling you? Are you going to be a faithful follower and obediently do His will on earth—as He has chosen in heaven?
