Prayer – Lord, I am hungry. Please fill me with Your
spiritual food that I may honor and serve You today and always.
Give us this day our daily bread. Matthew 6:11 NKJV
Meditate. Consider the “food” that gives you nourishment.
When did you first think of scripture as being a “daily
bread?” Have you ever considered that you need scripture every day—just like
you need 2-5 meals a day? Paul reminded the Jews at the church at Corith about the
food—spiritual food—their ancestors partook in as they traveled the exodus
route from Egypt. That spiritual food provided them…and us…with “meat” that satisfies
the mind—and soul.
Moreover, brethren,
I do not want you to be unaware that all our fathers were under the cloud, all
passed through the sea, all were baptized into Moses in the cloud and in the
sea, all ate the same spiritual food, and all drank the same spiritual drink. For
they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them, and that Rock was Christ.
1 Corinthians 10:1-4 NKJV
After Jesus spoke with the woman at the well in Samaria, He
spoke with His disciples about spiritual food that is the “will” of His Father.
Are you partaking in spiritual food daily for yourself—and sharing it with others.
The harvest that Jesus spoke about was a harvest of souls. We have to feed our
souls His spiritual food so that we can be “harvested” or gathered together one
day for His use and glory.
Therefore the
disciples said to one another, "Has anyone brought Him anything to
eat?" Jesus said to them, "My food is to do the will of Him who sent
Me, and to finish His work. "Do you not say, 'There are still four months
and then comes the harvest'? Behold, I say to you, lift up your eyes and look
at the fields, for they are already white for harvest! "And he who reaps
receives wages, and gathers fruit for eternal life, that both he who sows and
he who reaps may rejoice together. John 4:33-36 NKJV
How do you eat the bread of life? The day after Jesus fed
5,000 men and their families, they looked for Him to be fed again, so He had a
discussion with them about bread.
Then Jesus said to
them, "Most assuredly, I say to you, Moses did not give you the bread from
heaven, but My Father gives you the true bread from heaven. "For the bread
of God is He who comes down from heaven and gives life to the world." Then
they said to Him, "Lord, give us this bread always." And Jesus said
to them, "I am the bread of life. He who comes to Me shall never
hunger, and he who believes in Me shall never thirst." John 6:32-35
NKJV (Underlined for emphasis.)
Read all of the book of John, especially John 6 for more
insight into Jesus’ teaching about bread. We don’t ever need to be hungry—spiritually
hungry—as long as we have God’s word, the Bible, to “feed” us. It may not always
be available to us—so that is a good motivation to memorize scripture. As you hide
God’s word in your heart, you will be eating the bread of life.
Verse of Salvation ~ Behold, God is my salvation, I will
trust and not be afraid; 'For YAH, the LORD, is my strength and song; He also
has become my salvation.' Therefore with joy you will draw water From the wells
of salvation. And in that day you will say: "Praise the LORD, call upon
His name; Declare His deeds among the peoples, Make mention that His name is
exalted. Sing to the LORD, For He has done excellent things; This is known in
all the earth. Isaiah 12:2-5 NKJV
