Prayer – Lord, You’ve forgiven me over and over…and I am grateful for that. Please continue to forgive me…and show me who and what I need to forgive others.
And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. Matthew 6:12 NKJV
Meditate. Consider forgiveness.
When was the last time you felt you had to forgive someone…and
did you do it?
Forgiveness is a big deal. Sometimes it is just hard to
humble ourselves to take that step…and forgive. I think the biggest motivation
that Jesus provides is found there in Matthew, just a couple of verses after
our focus verse today.
For if you forgive
men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do
not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your
trespasses. Matthew 6:14-15 NKJV
Are you out to "sting" someone... ...like a jellyfish will? Forgive others as you are forgiven. Jellyfish at the Omaha Zoo. |
Trespasses—debts—sins. All pretty much the same. When you tread on someone’s toes, it is like sinning against them. Sin against someone else is the same as sinning against God. He created everyone and everything—so to have something against someone is to have something against God, the creator. I’m preaching to myself here. Do you agree?
There are no secrets from God. He knows everything we do—we
can’t hide anything from Him. If we want to be forgiven—and our purity before
God restored, then we have to forgive others. How about forgiving ourselves? If
we are to love God, and love our neighbor as ourselves—shouldn’t that love for
ourselves include forgiving ourselves? Let me know your thoughts in the comment
section below.
Verse of Salvation ~ Oh, do not remember former
iniquities against us! Let Your tender mercies come speedily to meet us, For we
have been brought very low. Help us, O God of our salvation, For the glory of
Your name; And deliver us, and provide atonement for our sins, For Your name's
sake! Psalm 79:8-9 NKJV
