What is Shabbat to You?

The Ten Commandments

Prayer ~ Lord God, I pause and rest on this Sabbath day—to honor You. Does it matter if we observe the Sabbath on Saturday or Sunday? Surely, we are breaking on of Your Ten Commandments by following the Christian tradition of the Sabbath on the day to commemorate Jesus Christ’s resurrection. Give me…and other Christians…a definitive answer as to when to observe Your Holy Sabbath day, the Jewish Shabbat. I want to live to please You…even to follow Your Commandments for You, Jesus, said… "If you love me, obey my commandments.” John 14:15

Remember to observe the Sabbath day by keeping it holy. You have six days each week for your ordinary work, but the seventh day is a Sabbath day of rest dedicated to the LORD your God. On that day no one in your household may do any work. This includes you, your sons and daughters, your male and female servants, your livestock, and any foreigners living among you. For in six days the LORD made the heavens, the earth, the sea, and everything in them; but on the seventh day he rested. That is why the LORD blessed the Sabbath day and set it apart as holy. Exodus 20:8-11

Meditate. Rest.

God declared the Sabbath as a day of rest on the seventh day…after six days of creation. It was to be a special and holy day, not just for men, but also for God. A day of rest.

So…rest today. Rest on this day that has been traditionally observed as the Sabbath since Christ rose from the dead on Sunday.

Verse of Salvation ~ For God says, "At just the right time, I heard you. On the day of salvation, I helped you." Indeed, the "right time" is now. Today is the day of salvation. 2 Corinthians 6:2

Shabbat ~ Tell the people of Israel: 'Be careful to keep my Sabbath day, for the Sabbath is a sign of the covenant between me and you from generation to generation. It is given so you may know that I am the LORD, who makes you holy.’ Exodus 31:13
