Give Away Your Worries

Meditate. Pray for wisdom and understanding as you study God’s Word.

So humble yourselves under the mighty power of God, and at the right time he will lift you up in honor. Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about you. 1 Peter 5:6-7

God—the great Sovereign Diety—from the Greek word theos. This mighty God—all powerful—cares about us and wants to honor us. That is awesome, but humbly, it is we should be honoring Him. Peter wrote…Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about you. That is just what Jesus told the multitudes as recorded in the book of John.

Old Yoke at the Charleston museum.
One person would use this to carry a heavy burden.

Then Jesus said, "Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light." Matthew 11:28-30 NLT

"Come to Me, all [you] who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. "For My yoke [is] easy and My burden is light." Matthew 11:28-30 NKJV

What a wonderful promise. If we give Jesus our cares and worries—especially evident during this time of COVID stress—He will carry our troubles with us. Interesting to note that in the variety of translations as in the NLT above, Jesus is giving a burden. Other translations don’t include this “give” aspect of the burden. Listen to what the Lord has for you today. Let Him teach you something new that you can apply to your life and your relationship with Him. And rest--yes, rest in His love.

Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need. Matthew 6:33

Prayer ~ Lord, I come to You and cast all my cares on You…I lay all of my burdens down at your feet. I give them to You to carry with Your yoke. You are an awesome God and I humbly admit that I am not all that I could be. Cleanse my heart and soul that all that I think, say and do would be acceptable to You.

Verse of Salvation ~ Let all that I am wait quietly before God, for my hope is in him. He alone is my rock and my salvation, my fortress where I will not be shaken. My victory and honor come from God alone. He is my refuge, a rock where no enemy can reach me. O my people, trust in him at all times. Pour out your heart to him, for God is our refuge. Psalm 62:5-8

Friday’s Feasting at the King’s Table

We can’t live on bread alone—we need fats and fasting, too. Fasting is a great and healthy way to lose weight. Lower those carbs and proteins, too, and your body will burn fat. One of my brothers has lost 50 pounds! Wow! What an inspiration. He’s healthier for loosing those extra pounds…and I am heading for loosing a few myself!

How you fast depends on your body, your determination and your attitude.  I’ve discovered that an eighteen hour fast is good for me—going eighteen hours with only water and herbal tea—no sweeteners. Check out some of the YouTube videos or Google for fasting methods. Fasting has different purposes. You maybe already fasting to draw closer to and focus your attention on God and God alone during this Lenten season…or just in general. There are many instances of fasting in the Bible. Esther called for a fast for the Jews in Babylon and Jesus Himself directed people to wash up and not be sad when not if they were fasting. So, fast with liquids only, a meal a day or for an extended time knowing that it will purify your soul and mind as well as your body. Blessings as you fast.
