Ruth was
determined—and perhaps a little stubborn, in a respectful way. She didn’t give in
when Naomi, her mother-in-law, urged her to return to her family. Ruth was set
on going to Israel with Naomi. Maybe her husband, who had died, told her that
Israel was the promised land—that life was good there—when they weren’t having
a famine. They served the true God in Israel. Whatever the reason, Ruth was
determined. Eventually Jesus came from her lineage, so without her decisive
determination, God would have had to change His plans and choose another family
to bless with the lineage of David and Jesus. Maybe God was the one helping
Ruth to be determined to go with Naomi to Israel. God had His plans firmly set
in motion. Are you part of God’s plan today? Are you determined to live for Him,
to follow Him?
Training Tip – Show your children a picture of a mother duck with
her ducklings following her—either swimming in the water or waddling along a
path. The ducklings automatically follow their mom—out of the nest and into the
water. They know just what to do. Wherever she goes, they follow. They just
completely trust her. She knows they are following her and she keeps them safe
from danger of predators or unsafe water. God made them that way. God wants us
to follow Him the same way. Trusting Him. Proverbs
3:5-6 tells us…Trust in the LORD with all
your heart and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways
acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight. Be like those little
ducks—you and your children. Follow Christ, just like the little ducklings
follow their mamma duck. We can trust Him to take care of us, just like the
mamma duck takes care of her babies.
Lord God, just like Ruth, I’m determined to follow
You. May my children and grandchildren follow my example as I trust You to teach
us to live in the way that pleases You—following the example of Jesus.
