The Lord is our shepherd--and we can claim this promise that He WILL guide us. Shepherds are responsible to care for and protect their sheep. Our shepherd will not only provide safe water, but living water...the water of life. Jesus spoke to the woman at the well...If you had known the gift of God and who it is who said to you, 'Give me some water to drink,' you would have asked him, and he would have given you living water. ...But whoever drinks some of the water that I will give him will never be thirsty again, but the water that I will give him will become in him a fountain of water springing up to eternal life. The woman said to him, "Sir, give me this water, so that I will not be thirsty or have to come here to draw water." John 14:10, 14-15. The living water is still available to us today--we just have to ask. As that woman surely did ,too, we must repent of our sins--ask for forgiveness and receive that living water-- eternal life.
Training Tip – I was recently in
an art gallery that had a magnificent paint of Jesus with the woman at the
well. There was a child with her and she looked as if she were “with child”--of
course since she had had five husbands she probably had several children--and
she couldn't leave them alone while she went to get water. In the painting a
little tot hanging onto her skirt was memorized by Jesus. That painting reminds
us of the influence we have in daily life—that child was hearing about the
living water with its mother. What do your children learn about as they tag
along with you on daily tasks? Are they learning the importance of living
water?
Lord Jesus, as You shepherd us, guide us to not only receiving Your living water, but help us to share this message of eternal life with those, like the woman at the well, whose paths cross ours. There is indeed an invisible thread throughout our live that binds us all together--that our paths will cross with those You want us to help. We thank you for the love, security and guidance that you provide for us. We praise You.
