June 20 – Optimistic/Optimism

Read Luke 21-38
Yet not a hair of your head will perish. Luke 21:18

Optimism is that quality or value that allows a person to think the best of and be positive with people and all situations, even if later proven wrong. (opposite = pessimistic)

Although not a hair of their head was to be harmed, the disciples were anxious to know the future because Jesus had just told them that the temple would be torn down. When? What are the signs that it is about to happen?  Do you look for signs now—things that will predict your future? There must be lot of people seeking such knowledge because there are some fortune tellers still in business and by the looks of their buildings they are doing very well. Have you ever considered going to a fortune teller, a palm reader, or even reading the daily horoscopes? Moses gave instructions from the Lord to the Israelites in Leviticus 19:31. Do not turn to mediums or spiritists; do not seek them out to be defiled by them. I am the LORD your God. Using a medium or other spiritual guide shows a lack of faith in God. Moses continues the teaching of God in Leviticus 20:6…As for the person who turns to mediums and to spiritists, to play the harlot after them, I will also set My face against that person and will cut him off from among his people.  So God will turn His back on those who seek to know the future through mediums. Put your trust and faith in the Lord—not in those who are self optimistic.

Training Tip – Ask your kids what “optimism” or “optimistic” means to them. It is always fun to get kids’ ideas—they sometimes come up with very creative impressions of what words mean. So then discuss with your family optimism” and how optimistic people are very positive thinkers—about situations and other people. Are you an optimistic person? Do you want your children to be optimistic about the future…about others? Remember Christ’s promise in Luke 21:18, no hair will be harmed on their head. Claim that promise for your kids.

Lord God, thank you for the promise that not a hair on their head will perish—will be harmed. Please continue to keep my children and grandchildren safe as we face days ahead that could be turbulent.
