June 19 – Gain New Strength

Do you not know? Have you not heard? The Everlasting God, the LORD, the Creator of the ends of the earth does not become weary or tired. His understanding is inscrutable. He gives strength to the weary, and to him who lacks might He increases power. Though youths grow weary and tired, and vigorous young men stumble badly, yet those who wait for the LORD will gain new strength; they will mount up with wings like eagles, they will run and not get tired, they will walk and not become weary.  Isaiah 40:28-31

Have you ever run and not gotten tired? Imagine how God stays awake 24/7 and NEVER gets tired. That is so amazing to me! God is so awesome. He is the best of everything…never tires, never gives up, always listens, knows everything, understands everything, is the epitome of wisdom, and is all loving. One of my son’s favorite movies is Chariot of Fire. In that a young Jewish man and a young Scottish man run in the 1924 Olympics for the British team. They run so effortlessly—as if on wings of eagles. Those young men certainly gained their strength from the Lord—or maybe it is just the music that gives you that impression. At any rate God gave them strength…and will give you strength—just ask. He encourages us to wait on Him…He will give us new strength.

Training Tip – Take your children out for a run through a grassy park or down a nice path. Run until they get tired…and then read this verse to them. After a short rest and water break, have them run again and encourage them as they run back to your car that they will mount up with wings like eagles and not get tired. When you get home, give them a drawing of eagles to color…and remind them that it is the Lord who gives us strength like the eagles. (There are many drawing available on-line for free.)

Lord, as I walk this week—please give me new strength and help me not to get weary...not to be tired out and achy in my joints. I imagine those wings of eagles carrying me down the path. I wait on You Lord to provide the strength I need.
