So maybe you
don’t attend church regularly…but see the verse above directs us to “not
forsake our own assembling together.” Maybe getting together on a regular basis
with Christian friends—at a time other than a church hour—would be beneficial
to you. Make that a time of studying God’s word, discussing how to apply it to
your lives, and enjoying a time of fellowship and sharing—sharing time, joys
and sorrows, as well as some food. All that would be encouraging to anyone!
Food and fellowship are high on lots of people’s lists—but don’t forsake
getting into God’s word for spiritual encouragement. This passage also tells us
to do this “assembling together” even more as you see the day coming closer. In
Strong’s Bible helps, this “day” means…the last day of
this present age, the day Christ will return from heaven, raise the dead, hold
the final judgment, and perfect his kingdom. That will be a great day—and we should prepare for it by
spending more time learning about God and sharing that time with other
Christians. Don’t “forsake” telling others about God and His plan for our
eternity with Him. My goal is to go to Heaven…and take as many people with me
as possible. Is that your goal in life, too?
Training Tip – Think of ways that your family can do good deeds
for others in your home and your neighborhood. Make a list of ways that you can
do this throughout the year…and then follow through with your ideas. Recently,
on May 1st—May Day, my daughter and her children anonymously
delivered flowering plants to a dozen of their neighbors. It was so fun to
watch the children help with the project—it was truly a “good deed” for them…and
the neighbors who discovered their gift were so thrilled—a very fun thing to
do. It may give someone hope—hope for a better today and a better tomorrow.
Lord God, we want to learn more about You every day
and to share Your love by doing good deeds and by spending quality time with
others. We realize the value of encouragement and fellowship with other
Christians and with those who are still seeking You. Give us all Your hope.
