A dependable
person will not lie. God abhors lying. There are six things which the Lord hates, yes,
seven which are an abomination to Him: Haughty eyes, a lying tongue, and hands
that shed innocent blood, a heart that devises wicked plans, feet that run
rapidly to evil, a false witness who utters lies, and one who spreads strife
among brothers. Proverbs 6:16-19
This is a
pretty specific list and all of them are bad. Common sense would keep most
people from committing any of those acts, but then not everyone has a lot of
common sense.
Folly is joy to him who lacks sense, but a man of
understanding walks straight. Proverbs 15:21
Training Tip – With your family make a list of the things that God
hates. Next to that list make another list of things that God loves—those just
opposite of the things He hates. Discuss this list with your family and post it
where they can refer to it often.
Lord God, fill us with understanding that we would
walk straight and do what is pleasing in Your eyes.
