God led and thus disciplined
the Hebrew people as they followed God’s pillar of cloud by day and pillar of
fire at night from Egypt to the Holy Land. See the story in Exodus 13. God loves us so much He wants to discipline us to do
what is right—to be like Jesus. He lets us “hear” His voice. So what does “discipline”
mean? Discipline is a
systematic instruction intended to train a person. Jesus “trained” His
disciples by His example, as well as by parables and words of wisdom. Now He
continues to train those who listen to Him—who follow His way. That is also how
we should discipline our children—by example as well as with words of wisdom
and knowledge. Whoever loves discipline loves knowledge, but he who
hates reproof is stupid. Proverbs 12:1.
Training Tip – Are you showing good examples of Godly living to
your children? Do you discipline yourself to study God’s word daily and to
train up your children in the way they should go? Tell your family the story of
God leading His people from Egypt to Israel using the pillar of clouds and
fire. God was always with His people--and He is always with us today.
Lord God, thank you for being present in the lives
of the Hebrew people as You led them to the Promised Land. We’re glad that you
are with us—always—and we appreciate that You show us how to live as we study
Your word.
