May 1 – Courage

...fixing our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Hebrews 12:2

Courage. The most courageous person we will ever know is Jesus. He willingly went to the cross for us. Knowing the pain and humiliation that He would have to endure—He courageously went anyway. Sure Jesus IS God—but He was human, too. He felt all the emotions, trials, tribulations and temptations that we feel. He must have been not desired to go to the cross—He prayed in the Garden of Gethsemane, …My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from Me; yet not as I will, but as You will. Matthew 26:39. He courageously went anyway. He had the choice—He courageously went anyway. What an example for us. If we want to be like Jesus, then we have to face any situation or trial with courage…and do what is right.

Training Tip – Ask your family what “courage” means. Read the story of David and Goliath as an example. Let your children act out the story of David and Goliath. David was courageous.

Lord Jesus, I praise you that…being found in appearance as a man, You humbled Yourself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. (Philippians 2:8) Help us to be courageous and obedient to God the Father.
