June 10 - Beauty?

Ruth 2:4-5

Now behold, Boaz came from Bethlehem and said to the reapers, "May the Lord be with you." And they said to him, "May the Lord bless you." Then Boaz said to his servant who was in charge of the reapers, "Whose young woman is this?"

Have you ever seen a dazzling beauty and wondered who she is? There are beautiful people everywhere—and then there are some people who are mesmerizing they are so attractive. Maybe that is what Ruth looked like—a stunning beauty. In a barley field if she was attractive, she probably was even more striking. But then it may have been warm and everyone was a little sweaty from working in the hot sun. Anyway, Boaz wondered who this beautiful girl was. He probably knew most of the people in Bethlehem and Ruth was a young women that he didn’t recognize. Did he immediately recognize her inner beauty, too?

Boaz was a rich landowner who was checking on the barley harvest in his fields. By the way that he greeted his reapers we can tell that he was a courteous and God fearing man. So “How’s It Going?” You can tell a lot about a person by the way they greet others, whether they even acknowledge the presence of others and are respectful of them. People who are self centered may respond with how they are feeling or how things are going for them, but never ask about the other person. When we care about God, we almost naturally care about others. God puts that desire in us, to serve His people. What a spiritual blessing Christians are to each other when they are in right relationship to the Lord. Are you a blessing to others?

Lord, help us to see those around us as You see them.
