Merciful

Day 17 of 30 days of Praying the Name and Attributes of God

But from there you will seek the LORD your God, and you will find Him if you search for Him with all your heart and all your soul. When you are in distress and all these things have come upon you, in the latter days you will return to the LORD your God and listen to His voice. For the LORD your God is a compassionate God; He will not fail you nor destroy you nor forget the covenant with your fathers which He swore to them. Deuteronomy 4:29-31

God is compassionate and merciful. Here in Deuteronomy Moses is reminding the Israelites that God is a jealous God—that they need to remember the Ten Commandments and live according to them. But God has told him that they will serve idols…so he is reminding them to seek God with all their heart and soul. That is what we all need to do—to seek and serve the Lord. And to be merciful to others…like God is to us. Jesus taught that, as it is written in Luke 6:36…be merciful, just as your Father is merciful.  What does mercy look like? Treating others with compassion, understanding, forgiveness, kindness and generosity.

RSVP: Jesus is inviting us today to a table of mercy and compassion. Will you join Him there and share the mercy you receive?

 Prayer~ But You, O Lord, are a God merciful and gracious, slow to anger and abundant in lovingkindness and truth. Psalms 86:15. Help me to be more merciful and compassionate to those around me, like You.

God is Omnipresent

Day 16 of 30 days of Praying the Name and Attributes of God

I can never escape from your Spirit! I can never get away from your presence! If I go up to heaven, you are there; if I go down to the grave, you are there. If I ride the wings of the morning, if I dwell by the farthest oceans, even there your hand will guide me, and your strength will support me. I could ask the darkness to hide me and the light around me to become night-- but even in darkness I cannot hide from you. To you the night shines as bright as day. Darkness and light are the same to you. Psalms 139:7-12 NLT

Have you ever wanted to get away from everyone—even God? Knowing that God is Omnipresent—always with us means we can’t get away from Him. For someone deep in sin who is being convicted of their sin—that could be a heavy burden. But for the rest of us…what a comfort and encouragement. Wherever we go, God is there.  In fact He goes ahead of us—preparing the way. The LORD is the one who goes ahead of you; He will be with you. He will not fail you or forsake you. Do not fear or be dismayed. Deuteronomy 31:8.  What a great and awesome God we have! Always with us—and always for us. What more could we want?

 

RSVP: God is offering us an invitation and promise today to always be with us—in the form of the Holy Spirit. Do you want Him to be there and guide you? How will you respond to Him today? 

Prayer~ Thank You Jesus that You promised… "I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may be with you forever.”  John 14:16. That Helper is the Holy Spirit who is indeed a Comforter, a Protector, who gives us wisdom and strength. Thank you also for the healing touch You have provided to our loved ones in need. Please continue to heal, strengthen, guide and protect those who are near and dear to us.

God is Omniscient

Day 15 of 30 days of Praying the Name and Attributes of God

O LORD, you have examined my heart and know everything about me. You know when I sit down or stand up. You know my thoughts even when I'm far away. You see me when I travel and when I rest at home. You know everything I do. You know what I am going to say even before I say it, LORD. You go before me and follow me. You place your hand of blessing on my head. Such knowledge is too wonderful for me, too great for me to understand! Psalm 139:1-6 NLT 

I remember hearing this term “omniscient” for the first time when I was studying to be confirmed in my church as a teenager. Knows everything.  It takes a pretty big God to know everything about every one—and everything in the world. Wow. That was mind boggling then…and it still is. That God knows what I’m going to say before I say it sometimes helps me to control my tongue…and not say the wrong thing. Sometimes. Knowing that God is always with me has been comforting during times of stress and is a promise I claim often…I will never leave you or forsake you. Hebrews 13:5. It isn’t just that God won’t abandon me…He wants to maintain a relationship with me. He cares enough about me to promise that. How encouraging is that from a God who is omniscient? 

RSVP: God is offering you an invitation today to know Him—to worship Him, the omniscient God of the Universe. How will you respond to Him today? 

Prayer~ God, now I see things imperfectly, like puzzling reflections in a mirror, but someday I will see everything with perfect clarity. All that I know now is partial and incomplete, but then I will know everything completely, just as You God now know me completely. 1 Corinthians 13:12 NLT

God is Self-Sufficient

Day 14 of 30 Days of Praying the Name and Attributes of God
The God who made the world and all things in it, since He is Lord of heaven and earth, does not dwell in temples made with hands; nor is He served by human hands, as though He needed anything, since He Himself gives to all people life and breath and all things; and He made from one man every nation of mankind to live on all the face of the earth, having determined their appointed times and the boundaries of their habitation, that they would seek God, if perhaps they might grope for Him and find Him, though He is not far from each one of us; for in Him we live and move and exist, as even some of your own poets have said, 'For we also are His children.'  Acts 17:24-28 

God doesn’t need us. That’s kind of a humbling statement. Who needs us? We need each other and we do need God. I think it is encouraging to think that God wants us since He created us, has given us free will and yet has promised that He will never leave us or forsake us (Hebrews 13:5). He still doesn’t NEED us. Paul spoke these words in Acts 17 in Athens describing how God is self-sufficient. Those people didn’t know the one true God…they just knew of many gods. Additionally, they didn’t know that they could be children of this God and spend eternity with Him. Some were eager to know more and told Paul that they wanted to hear from him again concerning that. (Continue to read Acts 17.) Do you want to know more about God…about eternity?  

RSVP: Jesus is offering us an opportunity today to know more about Him and about our Heavenly Father. Will you spend time with Him today…reading His Word, meditating on it and praying for wisdom and understanding? 

Prayer~ Heavenly Father, You are self-sufficient and don’t need me, but I need You. Please give me wisdom and understanding that I would know You better. Thank you for hearing our prayers and we continue to lift us Michelle, Ramez and Dylan to you that you would touch and heal each of them. We praise You.

Friday’s Feast at the King’s Table

Is it a gray day where you are? It is here. Bring a little joy into your world today with everyone’s favorite—fudge. This recipe starts with some sunny cheese that I haven’t used much since I was a kid—but it make this fudge tasty and we can rationalize a bit nutritious. Thanks Joan for the recipe! 

Velveeta Cheese Fudge

1 lb. butter

1 lb. Velveeta cheese

Melt over low heat.

Mix 1 cup cocoa with 4 lbs powdered sugar.

When butter and cheese are melted, add the cocoa and sugar mixture. Stir quickly and mix well.

Add 1 Tbsp vanilla. Add 1 cup of chopped nuts if desired. 

Spread in 11X17 pan, or a 9 X 13 pan but the pieces will be thick and slightly harder to cut.

Let cool, cut and enjoy. This can be wrapped in plastic wrap and then in foil and frozen for a few months.

God is Holy

Day 13 of 30 days of Praying the Name and Attributes of God

Each of these living beings had six wings, and their wings were covered all over with eyes, inside and out. Day after day and night after night they keep on saying, "Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God, the Almighty—the one who always was, who is, and who is still to come." Whenever the living beings give glory and honor and thanks to the one sitting on the throne (the one who lives forever and ever), the twenty-four elders fall down and worship the one sitting on the throne (the one who lives forever and ever). And they lay their crowns before the throne and say, "You are worthy, O Lord our God, to receive glory and honor and power. For you created all things, and they exist because you created what you pleased." Revelation 4:8-11 NLT

Holy, Holy, Holy. That is one of the first songs I learned in Children’s Choir at church when I was in the fourth grade. I can still sing the alto part without music for at least part of it. I think that will be one of the songs we sing to God to glorify Him in heaven. God is holy, absolutely pure and untainted. We won’t even be able to come into His presence if we have any sin in us…that is why Jesus came—to purify us with His sacrificial blood. Heaven is going to be an exciting place—with people from all over the world joined together around the glistening throne of God—singing praises to this uniquely holy God. Who will not fear you, Lord, and glorify your name? For you alone are holy. All nations will come and worship before you, for your righteous deeds have been revealed. Revelation 15:4 NLT. Do you fear…or respect the holy Lord God? Why or why not? 

RSVP: Jesus is giving you an invitation today to know His Heavenly Father more fully as the Holy One—the living God. The one who was, who is, and who is to come. How will you respond to Him today? Will you read your Bible seeking wisdom, pray and open your heart to our holy God? 

Prayer~ Jesus, just as You taught Your disciples, I pray… Father, may your name be kept holy. May your Kingdom come soon. Luke 11:2 NLT. You are holy, but entirely approachable. Thank you, Jesus, for teaching us about holiness—and for being our ultimate example.

God is Jehovah-Raphe – The Lord Who Heals

Day 12 of 30 days of Praying the Name and Attributes of God

Then Moses led Israel from the Red Sea, and they went out into the wilderness of Shur; and they went three days in the wilderness and found no water. When they came to Marah, they could not drink the waters of Marah, for they were bitter; therefore it was named Marah. So the people grumbled at Moses, saying, "What shall we drink?" Then he cried out to the LORD, and the LORD showed him a tree; and he threw it into the waters, and the waters became sweet. There He made for them a statute and regulation, and there He tested them. And He said, "If you will give earnest heed to the voice of the LORD your God, and do what is right in His sight, and give ear to His commandments, and keep all His statutes, I will put none of the diseases on you which I have put on the Egyptians; for I, the LORD, am your healer." Exodus 15:22-26 

Pain and sickness draw us to the cross—to the feet of Jesus, pleading for healing. Healing for ourselves and for our loved ones. Rapha means “to restore,” to “heal” or “to make healthful” in Hebrew. Right now I humbly come to the Lord God, Jehovah-Raphe, asking Him to heal and restore my niece Michelle to health. She has been struggling with pancreatitis for about five months and is now in Virginia Mason Hospital in Seattle dealing with draining fluids associated with the pancreatitis that have accumulated in her body. I ask for a miracle for her—to restore her health. Please join me—asking the Lord God, our Jehovah-Raphe, to be merciful. God is good. I claim these verses for Michelle:

·         For I will restore you to health and I will heal you of your wounds, declares the LORD…. Jeremiah 30:17

·         The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me, because the LORD has anointed me to bring good news to the afflicted; He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to captives and freedom to prisoners….Isaiah 61:1

·         Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget none of His benefits; who pardons all your iniquities, who heals all your diseases….Psalms 103:2-3.

·         Many followed Him (Jesus), and He healed them all…. Matthew 12:15

We can only trust…and obey.

God is Just

Day 11 of 30 days of Praying the Name and Attributes of God

We thank you, O God! We give thanks because you are near. People everywhere tell of your wonderful deeds. God says, "At the time I have planned, I will bring justice against the wicked. When the earth quakes and its people live in turmoil, I am the one who keeps its foundations firm. Interlude "I warned the proud, 'Stop your boasting!' I told the wicked, 'Don't raise your fists! Don't raise your fists in defiance at the heavens or speak with such arrogance.'" For no one on earth—from east or west, or even from the wilderness—should raise a defiant fist. It is God alone who judges; he decides who will rise and who will fall. Psalms 75:1-7 NLT 

Imagine yourself standing before the very throne of God. It is time for your judgment. Now you realize all the teaching that were presented that you needed to apply to your life. Jesus is God and He is just.

·         He is the LORD our God. His justice is seen throughout the land. - 1 Chronicles 16:14 NLT

·         Truly, God will not do wrong. The Almighty will not twist justice. - Job 34:12 NLT

·         And we know that God, in his justice, will punish anyone who does such things. - Romans 2:2 NLT

·         Don't be misled—you cannot mock the justice of God. You will always harvest what you plant. - Galatians 6:7 NLT

·         And we know that God, in his justice, will punish anyone who does such things. Since you judge others for doing these things, why do you think you can avoid God's judgment when you do the same things? Don't you see how wonderfully kind, tolerant, and patient God is with you? Does this mean nothing to you? Can't you see that his kindness is intended to turn you from your sin? Romans 2:2-4 NLT

Yes, Jesus kindness is meant to turn us from our sins. Sins of omission and sins of commission. God disciplines sinners. So the best thing to do is not sin—to turn from thought, words and actions that are offensive to God. That can only be done through the grace of God. If there is no sin, there is nothing to judge. Rejoice in that! Live in a state of holiness unto the Lord. May each moment you turn your thoughts and actions to the Lord be a moment of joy to Him. 

RSVP: Jesus is offering us an opportunity to see Him as a fair judge, because He is…and He will one day judge everyone as it is written… I solemnly charge you in the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who is to judge the living and the dead, and by His appearing and His kingdom: preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort, with great patience and instruction. 2 Timothy 4:1-2. How will Jesus see you as you stand before Him? How will you respond today to this opportunity to know Him as your judge?  

Prayer~ God, You are righteous and holy, fair and equitable in everything. We trust You to always do what is right.

God is Transcendent

Day 10 of 30 days of Praying the Name and Attributes of God

The LORD is high above all nations; His glory is above the heavens. Who is like the LORD our God, Who is enthroned on high, who humbles Himself to behold the things that are in heaven and in the earth? Psalm 113:4-6 

God is above all things, even heaven… He who descended is Himself also He who ascended far above all the heavens, so that He might fill all things. Ephesians 4:10. Our minds cannot comprehend heaven…much less what is above and beyond heaven. I am intrigued by books like Heaven Is For Real by Todd Burpo where his 4 year old son dies during an appendectomy, goes to Heaven and returns to tell about people he met. For real. Now it is being made into a movie that will be in theaters April 16, 2014. That will be awesome—but it likely won’t show us God. We have to continue to search for Him here—in our hearts, lives and Bibles. Let God reveal Himself to you personally. He may be above all things, even heaven—but He can enter the smallest places of our hearts, too. 

RSVP: Jesus is inviting Himself into your heart today. Will you seek Him, to understand Him more, and allow Him to know you more deeply? Let Him know.

Prayer~Lord God… Let everyone praise the name of the LORD, For Your name alone is exalted; Your glory is above earth and heaven. Psalms 148:13. I praise You—for You are above all—the greatest, most excellent loving God, worthy of praise and honor.

God is Immutable - Unchanging

Day 9 of 30 Days of Praying the Names and Attributes of God

Of old You founded the earth, and the heavens are the work of Your hands. Even they will perish, but You endure; And all of them will wear out like a garment; Like clothing You will change them and they will be changed. But You are the same, And Your years will not come to an end. Psalms 102:25-27  

God is forever and unchanging. All that He is, He has always been, and will always be. He is perfect, unchanging. We humans are so unlike God physically. We change from year to year, month to month, even from day to day. Our bodies age, muscles start to sag, and eyes grow dim, but we do gain wisdom, if we are careful and attentive to what we allow into our thoughts and minds. With that change in wisdom, we change emotionally and, hopefully, we mature spiritually, too. Eventually our bodies will wear out—or we’ll meet with some timely or untimely demise—and our lives will end. God will call us home. But God Himself will never die—He is eternal. That same eternal spiritual dimension is what He offers us when we believe in His Son, Jesus Christ, as our Savior. We will take up the yoke here on earth—and in heaven we will live forever. Forever. Forever is a long, long time. Are you ready for that?

RSVP: As the unchanging God, Jesus is offering us an invitation to a forever banquet with Him and our Heaven Father. What is your response to that today? What is on your plate?

Prayer~ Dear God, I declare that You are the great I Am. There is no god besides You; It is You who put to death and give life. You have wounded and it is You who heal, and there is no one who can deliver from Your hand. Indeed, I lift up my hands to heaven, and say, Lord God, You will live forever…. Deuteronomy 32:39-40

God is Jehovah-shalom – The Lord is Peace

Day 8 of 30 days of Praying the Name and Attributes of God

The LORD said to him, "Peace to you, do not fear; you shall not die." Then Gideon built an altar there to the LORD and named it The LORD is Peace. To this day it is still in Ophrah of the Abiezrites. Judges 6:23-24 

Shalom means peace or absence of strife. At the time of Gideon the Israelites had disobeyed God, so God had given the Midianties power over them. Gideon didn’t have a lot of confidence in himself since he was the youngest in his family and his family was the least in tribe of Manasseh. In Judges 6 Gideon takes down an altar to Baal, a pagan God, builds an altar to the Lord, and using the wood from Baal’s altar, offers a burnt offering to the Lord. Because of Gideon devotion and trust, the Lord promised him that He would deliver the Israelites from the Midianites and He did. Imagine the peace that Gideon felt. Have you ever felt the peace of the Lord—during a time of unrest? I have. After my sister was killed, I was at her house, cleaning and getting ready to sell it—it was a very stressful and somewhat fearful time. The Lord really ministered to me through friends and I just felt His presence—His peace. 

RSVP: Jesus is inviting you to feel His presence and His peace in your life today? How will you respond to His invitation? 

Prayer~ Jesus, I claim this promise from You…Peace I leave with you; My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Do not let your heart be troubled, nor let it be fearful. John 14:27. For that, I thank You and praise You. I will not be afraid—I know You are with me, Jehovah-shalom.

God is Jehovah-jireh – The Lord Will Provide

Day 7 of 30 days of Praying the Name and Attributes of God

Then they came to the place of which God had told him; and Abraham built the altar there and arranged the wood, and bound his son Isaac and laid him on the altar, on top of the wood. Abraham stretched out his hand and took the knife to slay his son. But the angel of the LORD called to him from heaven and said, "Abraham, Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am." He said, "Do not stretch out your hand against the lad, and do nothing to him; for now I know that you fear God, since you have not withheld your son, your only son, from Me." Then Abraham raised his eyes and looked, and behold, behind him a ram caught in the thicket by his horns; and Abraham went and took the ram and offered him up for a burnt offering in the place of his son. Abraham called the name of that place The LORD Will Provide, as it is said to this day, "In the mount of the LORD it will be provided." Genesis 22:9-14  

The Lord will provide. As Abraham and Isaac went up Mt. Moriah, Isaac noted that they had the wood and fire—but “where is the lamb for the burnt offering?” Genesis 22:7. Abraham answered that “God will provide.” And He did—but not until after Abraham was willing to offer his own son as a sacrifice. This is the only place in the Bible where Jehovah-jireh appears. God used this story of Abraham as an example to us that He would be willing to sacrifice His own Son for our sins. No one provided a ram in the bushes for our sins…Jesus was the sacrifice. We can claim that promise—that The Lord will graciously provide for us as we follow and trust in Him. 

RSVP: Jesus is offering Himself as the sacrifice for our sin…for yours and for mine. How will you respond to His invitation today? Will you allow Him to provide for you…for your salvation and for your needs? 

Prayer~ Lord God, You are awesome and we humbly come before You willing to accept all that You provide for us. Without You, without Your love, we are nothing. Only empty worthless vessels. Fill us today with Your love and grace that we would be able to share that abundance with others. 

Friday’s Feast at the King’s Table

You likely won’t be sitting at anyone’s table if you have a miserable cold. You may not even feel like getting out of bed or off the couch to have a real meal that someone else has fixed. For something that might help you feel better try sipping a mug of Hot Lemon and Honey. As a natural anti-oxidant, honey may help you prevent a cold…but once you’ve got it, the best way to treat it is just some chicken soup, extra rest and fluids. Likely the cold is caused by a virus and nothing a doctor will do will make it go away.  

Hot Lemon and Honey

Juice ½ of a lemon, pour into a large mug. Add a couple of teaspoons of honey and fill the cup with very hot, but not boiling water. If you use boiling water, it may kill some of the vitamins in the lemon juice.

God is Love

Day 6 of 30 days of Praying the Name and Attributes of God

Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God; and everyone who loves is born of God and knows God. The one who does not love does not know God, for God is love. By this the love of God was manifested in us, that God has sent His only begotten Son into the world so that we might live through Him. In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins. 1 John 4:7-10 

When my daughter was about seven she was in a kids' musical at the base chapel we attended. It was a Psalty Kid’s Praise drama. The music included a song from 1 John 4:7-8. She is now singing it with her own precious kiddos. Great song to remind us that… “everyone who loveth is born of God and knowth God. He that loveth not, knowth not God…for God is love….So beloved, let us love another.” Scripture is always easier to remember when put to music. The message is what is essential—God is love. All love radiates and emanates from Him. The depth of that love in unfathomable. We can seek to know more about God every day for there is an endless supply of love to be obtained, expressed and shared. Love is essential to our very being. I’m often reminded of a study done in an orphanage overseas years ago where all babies were attended to—but some were not caressed, spoken to or loved. Those babies that were not loved did not thrive. Love is essential for our emotional tanks. I’ve been reading a couple of books lately about the Five Languages of Love, by Chapman and Cambell. These five languages are how children, teens and adults process words, actions and attitudes as expressions of love. They are:

·         Words of Affirmation

·         Physical Touch

·         Quality Time

·         Acts of Service

·         Gifts

You can go to an interactive web site to determine your own, or others, love language. www.fivelovelanguages.com How we show our love may depend on our relationship with God. How can you love, if you don’t feel loved? Do you know how much God loves you? 

RSVP: Jesus is inviting us today to know the depth of love that our Heavenly Father has to bestow on us. How will you respond to His invitation? Do you want more of God in your life? 

Prayer~ As the God of love and peace, be with us …we rejoice, are made complete, and are comforted when  we are like-minded, seeking You  and living in peace—loving You and others . 2 Corinthians 13:11

God is Good

Day 5 of 30 days of Praying the Name and Attributes of God

You are good and do good; Teach me Your statutes. Psalms 119:68

And Jesus said to him, "Why do you call Me good? No one is good except God alone. Luke 18:19

Give thanks to the LORD, for He is good; For His lovingkindness is everlasting. Psalms 118:29  

God is good. He is the embodiment of perfect goodness. He can’t do evil. He is good, pure and holy. The goodness of the Lord is… How great is the goodness you have stored up for those who fear you. You lavish it on those who come to you for protection, blessing them before the watching world. Psalms 31:19 NLT. Blessing the ones who love Him…before the watching world. Everyone is always watching those around them—judging, scrutinizing, and hopefully encouraging others. That is what Christians are supposed to do. Encourage others. It’s a God thing. That is how He shows His love—through and to people everywhere. Have you discovered what it is like to be used by God?  

RSVP: Jesus is inviting us today to experience the goodness that He has for us. Will you let Him share that with you and show it to others?

Prayer~ Lord, I give You thanks today for You alone are purely goodness and overflowing with mercy. I praise You for the lovingkindness that You show to me and to those around me. Thank you, Jesus, for Your sacrifice on the cross for my sin.

God is Omnipotent

Day 4 of 30 days of Praying the Name and Attributes of God
The voice of the LORD is powerful, The voice of the LORD is majestic. Psalms 29:4

Lord GOD! Behold, You have made the heavens and the earth by Your great power and by Your outstretched arm! Nothing is too difficult for You, who shows lovingkindness to thousands, but repays the iniquity of fathers into the bosom of their children after them, O great and mighty God. The LORD of hosts is His name; ... Behold, I am the LORD, the God of all flesh; is anything too difficult for Me?  Jeremiah 32:17-18, 27  

God spoke and the very molecules that formed the atmosphere, water, and earth came into being…and the heavens and earth took shape. What power! What awesome power. God cares about the boundless universe…and about the smallest cells within our bodies. People pray and God hears them. With His  supreme power He opens the eyes of man to see new planets He created and instantly dissolves a blood clot right before the eyes of doctors. How can this be? Only God knows—only He has that power. But we have witnessed it. God is omnipotent. All-powerful.    

RSVP: Jesus is inviting us today to experience His omnipotent power. Can you trust Him and allow Him to be your God—to rule in your heart and every part of your life? 

Prayer~ Dear God, I do believe that You are omnipotent—all powerful. All that is living depends on You for our very being. You are an awesome God, worthy of our praise and adoration.

God is Infinite

Day 3 of 30 days of Praying the Name and Attributes of God

Great is our Lord and abundant in strength; His understanding is infinite. Psalms 147:5  

God is beyond our understanding. Just the fact that He never sleeps is amazing. He who keeps you will not slumber. Behold, He who keeps Israel (and you) will neither slumber nor sleep. Psalms 121:3-4. We get sleep deprivation after just a day without sleep, or a week with a few short nights. Not God. He never sleeps. Additionally, God can have a relationship and meet the needs of people around the world all at the same time. That is extremely immeasurable, boundlessly infinite. Considering that there are over seven billion people (7,216,881,907 at the count this minute as I type this) that is a lot of people to be loving and caring about at one time. Only an infinite God like our God could do that. When Jesus was on earth He could only be in contact with the people in His immediate presence, although He did speak to and feed 5,000 men and their families at one time. He said that He had to go and that He would send the Holy Spirit. Nevertheless I tell you the truth. It is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper (The Holy Spirit or the Spirit of Truth) will not come to you; but if I depart, I will send Him to you. John 16:7 NKJV. It is the Holy Spirit that resides in all the hearts of those who believe in Jesus. He is with us always filling us with His love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, and faithfulness as we surrender our will to His. Can you feel His presence in your life?

RSVP: Jesus is inviting us to allow the Holy Spirit to fill us with His love today. How will you respond to His invitation?

Prayer~ God, You are infinitely wise, loving, and understanding. You have no beginning, no ending, and no limits. You are awesome and I worship You today in spirit and in truth, just as Jesus taught (John 4:23-24).

God is Jehovah-M’Kaddesh or -Mekoddishkem

You shall consecrate yourselves therefore and be holy, for I am the LORD your God. You shall keep My statutes and practice them; I am the LORD who sanctifies you. Leviticus 20:7-8 

The Lord who sanctifies you. God is perfect. He cannot have any evil near Him. Anyone who approaches God must be pure and holy. We’re human—evil by nature since Adam and Eve sinned against God. The only way we can be pure is through Jesus—through the shedding of His blood. This passage in Leviticus tells us that we must consecrate ourselves…that is what we’ve done by confessing our sins and allowing Jesus’ blood to wash us white as snow. That makes us holy…and pure to stand before God. Secondly, we are told to keep God’s commandments. God is pretty serious about people keeping His commandment. See the following verses:

However, if you do not listen to me or obey all these commands, and if you break my covenant by rejecting my decrees, treating my regulations with contempt, and refusing to obey my commands, I will punish you. I will bring sudden terrors upon you--wasting diseases and burning fevers that will cause your eyes to fail and your life to ebb away. You will plant your crops in vain because your enemies will eat them. I will turn against you, and you will be defeated by your enemies. Those who hate you will rule over you, and you will run even when no one is chasing you! And if, in spite of all this, you still disobey me, I will punish you seven times over for your sins. Leviticus 26:14-18 NLT

Punishment is severe. In addition Jesus taught in the Sermon on the Mount…Therefore you are to be perfect, as your heavenly Father is perfect. Matthew 5:48. Be perfect…that would be the result of sanctification—holy perfection. What a goal for which to strive! God wants us to be holy so that we can fellowship with Him—that is what He created us for. How are you doing with that?  

RSVP: Jesus is calling us to be perfect. Is that too much to ask for? What is your response to Him today?

Prayer~ Jehovah-M’Kaddesh, You are an awesome God. Sanctify me. Make me holy, pure and free from my evil nature that I may approach Your throne and worship You.

I AM WHO I AM

The challenge for March:

Pray the Names of God, or His attributes, for 30 days. 

Then Moses said to God, "Behold, I am going to the sons of Israel, and I will say to them, 'The God of your fathers has sent me to you.' Now they may say to me, 'What is His name?' What shall I say to them?" God said to Moses, "I AM WHO I AM"; and He said, "Thus you shall say to the sons of Israel, 'I AM has sent me to you.'" God, furthermore, said to Moses, "Thus you shall say to the sons of Israel, 'The LORD, the God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, has sent me to you.' This is My name forever, and this is My memorial-name to all generations. Exodus 3:13-15

God is Jehovah. The name YHWH, Yahweh or Jehovah, was too sacred or holy for the early Jews to speak out loud so the pronunciation was lost for some time…so the vowels used may not actually represent the original name that God gave Himself. Jehovah means “to be,” “to exist” or “to become known” telling us that our God is one who reveals Himself continually or unceasingly.  The best response from us—when God reveals Himself—is for us to fall on our knees in fear and awe of the One who possesses all authority.  

RSVP: Jesus is God. The Son of God. How will you respond to Him today as He reveals Himself to you when you pray and study?

Prayer~ Jesus, show me more of Yourself today. You were there in the burning bush speaking with Moses. As You walked on earth and taught Your disciples, You said…I am the Son of God…I am the Good Shepherd…I am the Light of the World…I am the door…I am the Bread of Life…I am the resurrection and the life. I praise You and I believe that You ARE God—Jehovah—the great I AM.
