Traveling to Jerusalem

When Jesus had finished saying these things, he left Galilee and went down to the region of Judea east of the Jordan River. Matthew 19:1 

Then Jesus left Capernaum and went down to the region of Judea and into the area east of the Jordan River. Once again crowds gathered around him, and as usual he was teaching them. Mark 10:1

 

As the time drew near for him to ascend to heaven, Jesus resolutely set out for Jerusalem. Luke 9:51

        Jesus’ Galilean ministry came to an end, as He headed to Jerusalem. He knew what lay ahead of Him in that city. Death on a cross. But He had a ways to go before He would arrive in Jerusalem, and there were so many people still to touch, to heal, and even one to raise from the dead. Would you have wanted to be one traveling with Jesus, or to be one whom He healed? It must have been wonderfully exciting to be there with the Savior, the Messiah, the traveling Rabbi. The roads were dusty, and the food may have been scarce. There weren’t always lakes or seas, rivers, or even ponds for these fishermen to fish for their dinner, yet they must have eaten. Jesus knew the formula for manna, and if He could feed 5,000, He could certainly feed twelve to twenty. His followers kept their eyes on Jesus and witnessed Him teaching, healing, and helping. Just to be in the presence of The Master, I would be filled with peace and joy. To talk, laugh, and maybe even sing with Him would be wonderful. That day will come. For now, travel with Him as He journeys to Jerusalem.

What do we learn about Jesus from this scripture passage?

 

Prayer – Lord Jesus, You were ultimately obedient to our Heavenly Father. I imagine that He told You…It is time to go. And You headed for the big city…stopping along the way for more teaching and healing opportunities. Last days bonuses for those around You. Thank You for Your example of obedience. May we all seek to be like You.

 

Verse of Salvation ~ (Isaiah’s prayer for Jerusalem.) Because I love Zion, I will not keep still. Because my heart yearns for Jerusalem, I cannot remain silent. I will not stop praying for her until her righteousness shines like the dawn, and her salvation blazes like a burning torch. Isaiah 62:1
