God sent fire to destroy the wicked.
Do you feel any heat near you?
Be safe - Be righteous.
God
shows his anger against all sinful, wicked people. God is all powerful and I
don’t particularly want to make Him angry. God can wipe out people in an
instant—causing the earth to swallow them up or fire to devour them, just as He
did to the men and their families when they rebelled against Moses and against
God. Read about that in Numbers 16 when Moses spoke to the Israelites. It is
also mentioned in Numbers 26:10 where it provides a warning to the entire
nation of Israel.
"But if the LORD does
something entirely new and the ground opens its mouth and swallows them and all
their belongings, and they go down alive into the grave, then you will know
that these men have shown contempt for the LORD." He had hardly finished
speaking the words when the ground suddenly split open beneath them. The earth
opened its mouth and swallowed the men, along with their households and all
their followers who were standing with them, and everything they owned. So they
went down alive into the grave, along with all their belongings. The earth
closed over them, and they all vanished from among the people of Israel. All
the people around them fled when they heard their screams. "The earth will
swallow us, too!" they cried. Then fire blazed forth from the LORD and
burned up the 250 men who were offering incense. Numbers 16:30-35
God doesn’t
mess around. He knows if someone is evil and throughout the Bible there are
examples of the wicked being destroyed. God has promised that the wicked will
be abolished. Does that make the wicked want to change their ways? Each person
has choices to make.
For the wicked will be destroyed,
but those who trust in the LORD will possess the land. Psalm 37:9
The house of the wicked will be
destroyed, but the tent of the godly will flourish. Proverbs 14:11
Who or
what we worship—the ever-living God or idols—is a daily option. Who will you
trust to be your Lord and Savior? Will your actions give God a reason to show
His righteous anger?
But
God shows his anger from heaven against all sinful, wicked people who suppress
the truth by their wickedness. They know the truth about God because he has
made it obvious to them. For ever since the world was created, people have seen
the earth and sky. Through everything God made, they can clearly see his
invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature. So they have no excuse
for not knowing God. Yes, they knew God, but they wouldn't worship him as God
or even give him thanks. And they began to think up foolish ideas of what God
was like. As a result, their minds became dark and confused. Claiming to be
wise, they instead became utter fools. And instead of worshiping the glorious,
ever-living God, they worshiped idols made to look like mere people and birds
and animals and reptiles. Romans
1:18-23
Prayer
– Lord Jesus, guide our thoughts and actions that all that we think and do
would be pleasing in Your sight and bring glory and honor to You and to our
Heavenly Father.
Meditate.
Read God’s word and listen to what He is saying.
Verse
of Salvation ~ Dear friends, I had been eagerly planning to write to you about
the salvation we all share. But now I find that I must write about something
else, urging you to defend the faith that God has entrusted once for all time
to his holy people. I say this because some ungodly people have wormed their
way into your churches, saying that God's marvelous grace allows us to live
immoral lives. The condemnation of such people was recorded long ago, for they
have denied our only Master and Lord, Jesus Christ. Jude 1:3-4
