Prayer – Lord, seven is perfect—perfection. John was
given an answer to the mystery. Open my eyes to the ambiguity of all the hidden
ideas, the mysteries in Revelation.
When I turned to see who was speaking to me, I saw
seven gold lampstands. And standing in the middle of the lampstands was someone
like the Son of Man. He was wearing a long robe with a gold sash across his
chest. His head and his hair were white like wool, as white as snow. And his
eyes were like flames of fire. His feet were like polished bronze refined in a
furnace, and his voice thundered like mighty ocean waves. He held seven stars
in his right hand, and a sharp two-edged sword came from his mouth. And his
face was like the sun in all its brilliance. Revelation 1:12-16
Meditate. Count to seven. Twice.
Seven. Seven gold lampstands—not silver, but gold. Then
John saw seven stars. Those stars were in the right hand of the Son of Man. The
right hand is special—a place of honor or authority. Remember that Jesus, the
Son of Man, is seated at the right hand of God the Father in heaven.
The LORD said to my
Lord, "Sit in the place of honor at my right hand until I humble your
enemies, making them a footstool under your feet." Psalm 110:1
Jesus replied,
"You have said it. And in the future you will see the Son of Man seated in
the place of power at God's right hand and coming on the clouds of
heaven." Matthew 26:64
In the future…Jesus Himself was prophesying. In the future. He knew where He’d go after His death and resurrection. The seven stars are explained later in this chapter.
This is the meaning
of the mystery of the seven stars you saw in my right hand and the seven gold
lampstands: The seven stars are the angels of the seven churches, and the seven
lampstands are the seven churches. Revelation 1:20
Stars like fireworks send a message. |
Tomorrow we’ll look at this passage again…and the
description of the “Son of Man.” What do you think of his appearance? Is it a
mystery?
Verse of Salvation ~ We can rejoice, too, when we run
into problems and trials, for we know that they help us develop endurance. And
endurance develops strength of character, and character strengthens our
confident hope of salvation. And this hope will not lead to
disappointment. For we know how dearly God loves us, because he has given us
the Holy Spirit to fill our hearts with his love. When we were utterly
helpless, Christ came at just the right time and died for us sinners. Romans
