Do Not Judge Others

Meditate, but do not judge.

Do not judge others, and you will not be judged. For you will be treated as you treat others. The standard you use in judging is the standard by which you will be judged. Matthew 7:1-2

It is so easy for us to judge others…the clothes they wear, their general appearance, their cars and home, their kids’ actions, where they go to church…or if they even go to church. Jesus is pretty straightforward here. We will be judged by the standard that we judge others. Best advice to follow is the opening one…do not judge others. Similar advice is given in scripture spoken by Jesus as recorded in Luke.

Do not judge others, and you will not be judged. Do not condemn others, or it will all come back against you. Forgive others, and you will be forgiven. Give, and you will receive. Your gift will return to you in full—pressed down, shaken together to make room for more, running over, and poured into your lap. The amount you give will determine the amount you get back. Luke 6:37-38

This teaching known as part of the Sermon on the Mount was given by Jesus to a group of followers as they were seated on a hillside by the Sea of Galilee. He wasn’t teaching about salvation, but He was actually teaching them how to live a good righteous life and it is applicable to us today.

Will God judge us the way we judge others?

God will judge us for everything we do, including every secret thing, whether good or bad. Ecclesiastes 12:14

God alone, who gave the law, is the Judge. He alone has the power to save or to destroy. So what right do you have to judge your neighbor? James 4:12

God is the ultimate Judge.

Prayer ~ Lord God, forgive me for judging others. Only You have that right and I see that in the light of Your Son, Jesus, the true and living Messiah.

Verses of Salvation ~ "For God loved the world so much that he gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life. God sent his Son into the world not to judge the world, but to save the world through him. There is no judgment against anyone who believes in him. But anyone who does not believe in him has already been judged for not believing in God's one and only Son. And the judgment is based on this fact: God's light came into the world, but people loved the darkness more than the light, for their actions were evil. All who do evil hate the light and refuse to go near it for fear their sins will be exposed. But those who do what is right come to the light so others can see that they are doing what God wants." John 3:16-21
