An Advocate Just for You

This Week’s Memory Verse…
But when the Father sends the Advocate as my representative—that is, the Holy Spirit—he will teach you everything and will remind you of everything I have told you. John 14:26

Advocate. Just what is an advocate…or maybe we should ask who is an advocate? According to Merriam-Webster dictionary, an advocate is one who pleads the cause of another. Most often I think of a guardian ad Litem who represents the best interests of children in a courtroom. The person is appointed by the court from a special advocate program. A couple of my friends have served as guardian ad Litem and expressed that it an honor to represent little children…to stand up for their rights…and it is humbling to serve in the court system.

Is our Advocate speaking to the Father for us even now?
God is sending us an Advocate—the Holy Spirit. One to stand up for us…to plead our case before God the Father Himself. Does that seem odd? God the Father is sending an Advocate—as Jesus’ representative—just for us. The Holy Spirit will represent us before the Heavenly Father—pleading our case. The Holy Spirit is our Advocate…just as if we were little children standing before a great and mighty Judge. Jesus spoke about children and the Kingdom of Heaven.
One day some parents brought their little children to Jesus so he could touch and bless them. But when the disciples saw this, they scolded the parents for bothering him. Then Jesus called for the children and said to the disciples, "Let the children come to me. Don't stop them! For the Kingdom of God belongs to those who are like these children. I tell you the truth, anyone who doesn't receive the Kingdom of God like a child will never enter it." Luke 18:15-17
I think Jesus was indicating that adults need to be trusting, eager to learn and willing to be obedient like little children try to be…sometimes. We need an Advocate who has our best interests at heart…that is the Holy Spirit.

Prayer~ Lord Jesus, Thank You for Your obedience and sacrifice that we might have eternal life with You. Thank You, Heavenly Father…for Your miraculous plan for our salvation and for the Holy Spirit who is our Advocate. I praise You, Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
