Once again
Jesus told His disciples not to tell anyone that He is the Messiah. He told
others, like the leper He healed (Luke 5:12-14), to not tell others about His
healing power. Don’t tell. Why? Matthew
Henry suggested in his commentary that it was time for the preparation of the
kingdom, time for Christ’s works to be testified by those who were recipients
of His miracles—not by His disciples, and that they needed to be filled with
the Holy Spirit before they preached the truth that Jesus was the Messiah. That
didn’t happen until Pentecost. The timing wasn’t right and Jesus knew it. He
knows all things. There was work to do. Now that we are on the other side of
Pentecost and the Resurrection, we need to tell anyone who will listen that
Jesus is the Son of God. Jesus is the Messiah. Jesus is God.

Prayer
~ Jesus, just as You said…I want to...go and make disciples of all the nations,
baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, and teaching
these new disciples to obey all the commands You have given us. For we know the
You are with us always, even to the end of the age Matthew 28:19-20 NLT.
