Hosanna to the Son of David! Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest! From Psalm 118:21
People waved palm
branches—not just as Jesus rode into Jerusalem, but this last Sunday in church.
It was Palm Sunday. Often children are asked to parade through the sanctuary
and wave palm branches, but this year adults were asked to do the waving, giving
honor to the Lord while singing praise songs. Some grownups passed their palms
off to children sitting with them, others waved half-heartedly and a few were
downright exuberant as they swayed their branch above their heads. How would
you have waved your palm branch for the Lord?
Jesus fulfilled
prophesy of Zechariah 9:9 when He rode into Jerusalem on a donkey. The Hebrew
people were looking for a political savior and king and thought Jesus riding on
that donkey was their king. They shouted “Hosanna” meaning “Save”. He was a
spiritual savior and king—not the political one they were seeking. This passage
is one that we celebrate as Jesus Triumphal Entry into Jerusalem the week He
was crucified. This begins Holy week.
Are you letting Jesus
ride into your life as your spiritual savior today---everyday? Would you spread
your coat on the road as His followers did in Jerusalem? For us to have a
“spiritual feast” with Jesus we need to acknowledge Him as our Lord and King.
Jesus, I praise you as my Lord and Savior. Hosanna to
you.
