Does Your Life Feel Empty?

Do you have an emptiness in your life? Are you searching for something to fill up that gap? Do you attend church occasionally or even regularly and still have an empty feeling? What is your purpose in life? Are you searching for the latest Netflix movie or for Jesus?

How and where are you looking for a purpose for your life? David gave his son Solomon, the wisest man who ever lived beside Jesus, some very wise advice that is applicable to us today. There is great wisdom associated with seeking and knowing the LORD.

And Solomon, my son, learn to know the God of your ancestors intimately. Worship and serve him with your whole heart and a willing mind. For the LORD sees every heart and knows every plan and thought. If you seek him, you will find him. But if you forsake him, he will reject you forever. 1 Chronicles 28:9

Words from the Bible.
Great wisdom, guidance and teaching...
not just for you and me,
but for all mankind.
Read and learn.

Look at those words… learn to know…God. This is not something that is we get without some work. There is a marvelous book…the Bible…that gives us all we need to know. We just have to read it and learn. Then David advices us that we should…worship and serve him with your whole heart and a willing mind. Worshipping the LORD is essential to our relationship with Him. It gives us focus…and dare I say “purpose” in our lives to have a God to worship. God told the Israelites and us in the Ten Commandments that we are to “worship” only one god—Him. Jesus repeated words (Matthew 22:37, Mark 12:30, Luke 10:27) that are written in Deuteronomy 6:5.

And you must love the LORD your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your strength. Deuteronomy 6:5

How do people know and even acknowledge that there is a god…but not be willing to open their hearts to Him? Stubborn ignorance? Willful disobedience? A lack of love and trust? Are they so focused on themselves that they cannot or will not let God be part of their lives? Do they put their relationship with others above their need for a relationship with God that includes worshipping Him? I’ve known people that won’t go to church because their spouse doesn’t want to go…or just doesn’t believe in God. What does is take for someone to “believe” in God…in God’s Son, Jesus, who died a cruel inhumane death on a cross for our sins—yours and mine?

I grew up going to Sunday School and church—but didn’t know that I could have a personal relationship with Jesus until I was in college. When I heard that Jesus was coming back—I wanted to be sure to know that I would go with Him to heaven someday. That was a motivating factor for me. I thought I was a good person—not sinless—but not sinful. I was amazed that when I repented of my sins and asked God for forgiveness, that a huge weight lifted off my shoulders. Twenty pounds lighter! God is good to forgive us of our sins. That is what happened when Jesus died on the cross. God gave up His Son for the sins of all mankind—for you and for me. What a sacrifice on God’s part…and on Jesus’ part. I don’t feel worthy of His sacrifice…you probably don’t either. But God thought that we are valuable and precious enough that He was willing to allow His Son to die for us. If we believe, we become part of His family. That’s me. I’m a child of God. Humbling. Amazing. He is worthy of all worship, glory, and honor. Creator. Redeemer. Savior. Father. Friend.

Have you a spiritual purpose in your life? Do you know Jesus as your personal Savior? If not, seek Him today. Don’t forsake Him. Then tell everyone you know…and those you don’t know…about this wonderful Savior. Worship Him.

Give thanks to the LORD and proclaim his greatness. Let the whole world know what he has done. Sing to him; yes, sing his praises. Tell everyone about his wonderful deeds. Exult in his holy name; rejoice, you who worship the LORD. Search for the LORD and for his strength; continually seek him. Remember the wonders he has performed, his miracles, and the rulings he has given, you children of his servant Israel, you descendants of Jacob, his chosen ones. 1 Chronicles 16:8-13

(Spoken by James.) Peter has told you about the time God first visited the Gentiles to take from them a people for himself. And this conversion of Gentiles is exactly what the prophets predicted. As it is written: 'Afterward I will return and restore the fallen house of David. I will rebuild its ruins and restore it, so that the rest of humanity might seek the LORD, including the Gentiles—all those I have called to be mine. The LORD has spoken—he who made these things known so long ago.' Acts 15:14-18 (Underlined for emphasis.)

Prayer – LORD God, You are an awesome Savior…and God I trust You for the plan You have. I am seeking You with all of my heart, soul, mind, and strength.

Meditate. Consider your relationship with Jesus.

Verse of Salvation ~ Seek the LORD while He may be found; Call on Him [for salvation] while He is near. Let the wicked leave (behind) his way And the unrighteous man his thoughts; And let him return to the LORD, And He will have compassion (mercy) on him, And to our God, For He will abundantly pardon.
