Love on this First Day of Winter

Meditate on God’s love for you…and your love for Him.

And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God's love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow--not even the powers of hell can separate us from God's love. No power in the sky above or in the earth below--indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 8:38-39

No matter the time of the year, nothing can separate us from the love of God…except our own selfishness—our own ego—our own desires. God’s first commandment is to have no other gods before Him. If people put themselves first, are they considering themselves a god unto themselves? That could certainly separate them from God. Would you do that? I wouldn’t, but it has occurred to me that it could happen and likely is happening when people reject Jesus as their Savior.

Have you chosen to accept Jesus as your Savior? He died on a cross about two thousand years ago—a common death penalty in the Roman empire at that time. What was unique about His crucifixion was that although He was sinless, He took the sin of mankind as His own and suffered to death on the cross. Jesus is known as the Son of God—He is God. The miracle of His resurrection three days after His death sets Him apart from any other religious figures. Other gods, like Buddha, just died…and were not resurrected. They didn’t have the power that our God has.

Prayer ~ Thank You, God, for loving the world so much. "For God loved the world so much that he gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.” John 3:16. It is encouraging that nothing can separate us from Your love, Lord.

Verses of Salvation ~ All who believe in the Son of God know in their hearts that this testimony is true. Those who don't believe this are actually calling God a liar because they don't believe what God has testified about his Son. And this is what God has testified: He has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have God's Son does not have life. 1 John 5:10-12
