Meditate on this, while you have time...
Is this sunrise or sunset? Are you ready? |
Be dressed for service and keep your lamps
burning, as though you were waiting for your master to return from the wedding
feast. Then you will be ready to open the door and let him in the moment he
arrives and knocks. The servants who are ready and waiting for his return will
be rewarded. I tell you the truth, he himself will seat them, put on an apron,
and serve them as they sit and eat! He may come in the middle of the night or
just before dawn. But whenever he comes, he will reward the servants who are
ready. Understand this: If a homeowner knew exactly when a burglar was coming,
he would not permit his house to be broken into. You also must be ready all the
time, for the Son of Man will come when least expected. Luke 12:35-40
Are you ready?
The Hebrew people had a wedding custom in
which the bridegroom had a supper with his friends—sort of a bachelor party—and
then he went to the bride’s home to get her and returned to his house for a
great banquet. Even if it was really late he expected his servants to be
waiting for his return. This gives us the example that there is no room for
laziness in the life of a believer who is waiting for Christ’s return. Be ready
for that special time that Jesus has promised…His return. It may or may not
happen in our lifetime…but we should “be ready” all the time. No slacking
off…taking it easy. This is similar to the parable of the Ten Virgins who were
waiting for the Bridegrooms return. They needed to keep their lamps lit and
only five of them brought enough oil. When the unprepared young ladies returned
from going to buy more oil, the door to the wedding feast was closed and they
were refused entry. That is analogous to being refused entry into heaven. The
lesson again…BE READY.
Be ready all the time because we don’t know
when Jesus, the Son of Man, will return. This scripture tells us that it will
be when we least expect it. Be ready.

Prayer
~ Lord Jesus, I am eagerly waiting for Your return. Help me to see areas in my
life that I need to improve so that I can please You in all that I think, say
and do. I want to be ready for Your return and to encourage others to Be Ready,
too.
