Just
then there was a man in their synagogue with an unclean spirit; and he cried
out, saying, "What business do we have with each other, Jesus of Nazareth?
Have You come to destroy us? I know who You are--the Holy One of God!" And
Jesus rebuked him, saying, "Be quiet, and come out of him!" Throwing
him into convulsions, the unclean spirit cried out with a loud voice and came
out of him. They were all amazed, so that they debated among themselves, saying,
"What is this? A new teaching with authority! He commands even the unclean
spirits, and they obey Him." Immediately the news about Him spread
everywhere into all the surrounding district of Galilee. Mark 1:23-28

Ruins...or Remains...of the Synagogue at Capernaum, Israel |
Jesus was at the synagogue in Capernaum,
the home town of a few of His new disciples, Peter, Andrew, James, and John. This
might have been His first public teaching on the Sabbath there in that city. He
amazed them…just like He amazes us today. Truth, encouragement…healing. But the
real reason that He amazed them was that He cast out a demon—an unclean spirit.
That was an amazing feat. Read it closely…the unclean spirit recognized Jesus
of Nazareth—the Holy One of God. How many people today…right here in the United
States or anywhere in the world—not possessed with an unclean spirit—recognize
Jesus as the Holy One of God? Can they say “I
know who You are….” or can you say “I
know who You are?”
Prayer
~ Lord Jesus, You are truly amazing and I recognize that You are the Holy One
of God. You give me courage to do things I don’t want to do, strength to face
my weaknesses, and show me how to love others…as You love them. Continue to
give me insight into Your truths and miracles. May the news about You spread
everywhere around the world.
