How could
anyone see themselves as more important than Jesus? I know, not everyone
believes in Him as the Son of God…but historically He was crucified, and He was
not a criminal. That is a humbling thought—He went to the cross willingly for
no apparent reason. The reason was our sins. Occasionally you’ll read in the
news about someone going to prison for a crime they didn’t commit—although the
jury found them guilty at the time of their trial. Then they appeal their
conviction and are released. But Jesus’ case wasn’t like that. He didn’t have a
lawyer pleading his case and seeking his freedom. As we are told in Philippians
2:8, ….He humbled Himself by becoming
obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. To be like Jesus, we
don’t have to be crucified, but we do need to regard others as more important
than ourselves (Philippians 2:3) and be obedient to God.
Training Tip – Play the game “Mother May I?” again with your small
children. It will help them see the value of obedience. (See January 16th.)
Lord Jesus, I am in awe of Your willingness to die
for my sins—to suffer on the cross for me. Help me be obedient to the things
that You want me to do…and to see others as more important than myself.
