Genesis 14:18-24
Melchizedek, a priest of God Most High (El Elyon) and King of Jerusalem brought out bread and wine. He blessed Abram. Abram gave Melchizedek a tenth of all the spoils of the battle.
Bread and wine, just as in the Jewish custom at the Passover. Was this the beginning of that custom? It is noted that Melchezedek typified Christ (see Psalm 110:4 and Hebrews 7). His name means “king of righteousness.” So share the bread and wine (or juice) today with your family and friends, remembering what Christ did for you. His act of obedience has given you literally a lifetime, an eternal lifetime, of peace, joy, love---and freedom.
There is no freedom without forgiveness. In Matthew 7:7 Jesus tell us, "Ask, and it shall be given to you; seek, and you shall find, knock, and it shall be opened to you." So look at your life, what you need to be forgiven for, and ask Jesus specifically for forgiveness for that, and then live in such a way as to not repeat that action or attitude.
Sit at His table today and rejoice in His love and the forgiveness that He offers.
Lord, Thank you for your sacrificial love and forgiveness--given for me, for my family, my friends, and the whole world. I am humbled by the depth of your love. Show me how I can love others as you have.
