How Does Your Garden Grow?

Here is another story Jesus told: “The Kingdom of Heaven is like a farmer who planted good seed in his field. But that night as the workers slept, his enemy came and planted weeds among the wheat, then slipped away. When the crop began to grow and produce grain, the weeds also grew. “The farmer’s workers went to him and said, ‘Sir, the field where you planted that good seed is full of weeds! Where did they come from?’ “‘An enemy has done this!’ the farmer exclaimed. “‘Should we pull out the weeds?’ they asked. “‘No,’ he replied, ‘you’ll uproot the wheat if you do. Let both grow together until the harvest. Then I will tell the harvesters to sort out the weeds, tie them into bundles, and burn them, and to put the wheat in the barn.’” Matthew 13:24-30

Meditate. Think about weeds and thorns.

Who is the enemy of the farmer? The devil, masquerading as a greedy rival farmer or anyone who could benefit from that farmer loosing his crop, such as an unscrupulous banker uwho wants to take that farm and sell it at a huge profit for himself. So, in the dark of the night this enemy sneaks about that lovely farm with his dirty bag of weeds. Peeking around the corner of the barn.Is anyone one looking? The farmer and all his hired hands are sleeping soundly. Do you hear them snoring? Now, the enemy moves stealthily through the freshly seeded field—grinning like a Cheshire Cat—thinking that his evil, sinister plan will be perfect, dreaming of failure for this crop!

This farmer is shrewd. He is not going to fall prey to this evil plan. Do not pull out the weeds and harm the good plants—let them grow together. At the harvest, the weeds will be thrown into the fire. The evil scheme will be cut short. The healthy wheat plants will win and provide a crop worthy of the farmer’s efforts. Praise the Lord.

Just as He had done with earlier parables, Jesus explained this story to His disciples.

Then, leaving the crowds outside, Jesus went into the house. His disciples said, “Please explain to us the story of the weeds in the field.” Jesus replied, “The Son of Man is the farmer who plants the good seed. The field is the world, and the good seed represents the people of the Kingdom. The weeds are the people who belong to the evil one. The enemy who planted the weeds among the wheat is the devil. The harvest is the end of the world, and the harvesters are the angels. Just as the weeds are sorted out and burned in the fire, so it will be at the end of the world. The Son of Man will send his angels, and they will remove from his Kingdom everything that causes sin and all who do evil. And the angels will throw them into the fiery furnace, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth. Then the righteous will shine like the sun in their Father’s Kingdom. Anyone with ears to hear should listen and understand! Matthew 13:36-43

Is ’If that farmer is the Lord, what does this mean in the life of the Christian? Is God going to let the sinister evil people live and grow along alongside His good, upright followers? It happens everyday around us. Do you see yourself as the good crop or the wicked weeds? No depravity, fiendishness, perversion, or debauchery of evilness can separate us from the love of God.

Can anything ever separate us from Christ’s love? Does it mean he no longer loves us if we have trouble or calamity, or are persecuted, or hungry, or destitute, or in danger, or threatened with death? (As the Scriptures say, “For your sake we are killed every day; we are being slaughtered like sheep.”) No, despite all these things, overwhelming victory is ours through Christ, who loved us. And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love. No power in the sky above or in the earth below—indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 8:35-39

That’s the main take away for me. Nothing can create a separation between my Jesus and me. Nothing—not one thing, even the evil desires of the devil. No power against Jesus is even remotely possible.

Prayer ~ Lord Jesus, show us that we are part of Your plan and that You are stronger than any power that would try to attack us. Nothing can separate us from You. No weeds or

Verse of Salvation ~   So letting your sinful nature control your mind leads to death. But letting the Spirit control your mind leads to life and peace. Romans 8:6
