Follow Me—Now

When Jesus saw the crowd around him, he instructed his disciples to cross to the other side of the lake. Then one of the teachers of religious law said to him, "Teacher, I will follow you wherever you go." But Jesus replied, "Foxes have dens to live in, and birds have nests, but the Son of Man has no place even to lay his head." Another of his disciples said, "Lord, first let me return home and bury my father." But Jesus told him, "Follow me now. Let the spiritually dead bury their own dead." Matthew 8:18-22

Meditate on Jesus’ command.

 

Birds and animals have homes, but Jesus had no home. We know that He stayed with others sporadically, like with Peter, and with Mary, Martha, and Lazareth. Jesus wants His disciples to follow Him—immediately, not waiting until later. In this instance, Jesus said, Let the spiritually dead bury their own dead. He knew that if that disciple returned home until his father or family had died—it could be years. Let the spiritually dead bury their own dead. Are you planning to bury someone? Do you need to wake up spiritually? Follow Jesus, now. No waiting. What is holding you back?

 

Prayer – Lord Jesus, ah—no place to lay Your head. So sad—but now You have the highest, best home ever. Heaven! And Your Father will have a houseful there someday. Just as You promised… "Don't let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God, and trust also in me. There is more than enough room in my Father's home. If this were not so, would I have told you that I am going to prepare a place for you? When everything is ready, I will come and get you, so that you will always be with me where I am. And you know the way to where I am going." John 14:1-4. I will be there. I believe You are the Way, the Truth, and the Life. I am following You.

 

Verse of Salvation ~ For the kind of sorrow God wants us to experience leads us away from sin and results in salvation. There's no regret for that kind of sorrow. But worldly sorrow, which lacks repentance, results in spiritual death. 2 Corinthians 7:10

 

Friday’s Feast at the King’s Table

Water is life giving. Pure water saves lives. Not everyone in the world has pure water. Even Moses and the Israelites encountered water that they couldn’t drink.

When they came to the oasis of Marah, the water was too bitter to drink. So they called the place Marah (which means "bitter"). Then the people complained and turned against Moses. "What are we going to drink?" they demanded. So Moses cried out to the LORD for help, and the LORD showed him a piece of wood. Moses threw it into the water, and this made the water good to drink. It was there at Marah that the LORD set before them the following decree as a standard to test their faithfulness to him. He said, "If you will listen carefully to the voice of the LORD your God and do what is right in his sight, obeying his commands and keeping all his decrees, then I will not make you suffer any of the diseases I sent on the Egyptians; for I am the LORD who heals you." Exodus 15:23-26 NLT  

The water became good to drink, because Moses asked for help and God provided a method of purifying that water. When you need help…ask God. Likewise, listen closely to see if God is asking you to help with water wells for those in impoverished areas of the world where clean water is not available.

 

Be sure to drink enough water to stay hydrated during the HOT summer that is coming soon—maybe this weekend! Keep your water pure and uncontaminated. Spiritually, seek the Living Water that Jesus offers. 

Anyone who believes in me may come and drink! For the Scriptures declare, 'Rivers of living water will flow from his heart.' John 7:38
